So, I got an email from Fracktube… I mean Softube, saying the Kerry King Signature (guitar amp sim) has become a Legacy product, and that after 3 years, it will no longer supported. Probably like the FET compressor…
Imagine buying Superior Drummer 3, which costs a ton, and then suddenly they tell you after 3 years it will no longer be supported (I know, not the same thing).
But then again, Universal Audio probably has some legacy plugins, but they always include them in the installer, and you can always use it at least as a DSP plugin, even within your DAW, meaning, probably they won’t update or care about the Legacy plugins, but they goddamn make sure they still work till this day.
Your Kerry King Signature plug-in has become a legacy product. What does this mean?
Legacy products are discontinued products no longer sold by Softube. There are two types of legacy products: supported and unsupported.
Legacy products will receive support from Softube for three years after being discontinued. At this point, they become unsupported legacy products. As long as a legacy product is supported, you will receive new installers and updates, and the products themselves will continue to be qualified by our Quality Assurance team.
Your Kerry King Signature plug-in is now a supported legacy product, and you will continue to receive updates and bug fixes for three years. After three years, you will no longer receive updates, but you can access the latest qualified update for your legacy product to ensure the integrity of your product.
That does suck. I haven’t bought any of Softube’s guitar amp sims, so I’m not really knowledgeable on the lines. Are they replacing this line with a new line? It would be nice if they offered Kerry King Signature customers significantly reduced pricing on similar lines, if they have them. From a marketing perspective, I would see that as a smart strategy to help ensure these customers don’t feel resentment and become brand disloyal.
