“Can’t Get it Out of My Head” (ELO Cover)

I’m just going to keep putting my songs up here that I used to have at the Cakewalk songs Forum. This cover of ELO’s ‘Can’t Get It Out Of My Head” may be my best cover to date — this or “I am the Walrus.” Like my other covers, I tend to google the lyrics and chord progression and start recording, beginning with the piano parts. I don’t rehearse because my tendinitis usually gives me a total of 3 or 5 minutes on the keys, at best, before I’m in pain. So I accept the imperfections. Not a great promotion to check out the track, but I think, considering, I did a decent job. Nigel puts up fantastic stuff. I’m just a guy who was once a really good drummer, and I think, a decent songwriter, never lead vocalist material, trying to play again with the limitations I have. But I think I did a pretty good job with this. I think my strengths are in arrangement and improvised parts (on guitar, in this case). While I was recording the lead guitar track, I started getting really inspired by the song and did all of this little improvised guitar licks during the verses, similar to the way blues players will do the same during a song, and I think it worked and added something different to the cover.
