Sketchpad Monocrhrome $29

NOTE: With this low pricing, it’s clear that Musio is aiming right at their competitor, SoundPaint (8Dio), which I think is a smart strategy. They can’t price near the far more sophisticated KONTAKT libraries. The downside is that Musio player is far inferior to SoundPaint’s sampler; it’s not even close. That’s one of their greatest challenges at this point: to improve the Musio player and make it even have the basic functions users of Kontakt, SoundPaint, and other samplers / sample players have come to expect. The Musio player really should have more effects and capabilities. The fact that it doesn’t have presets — and a lot of them wouldn’t make sense without built-in effects — is a major shortcoming of their platform that may be a deal breaker not that Musio 1 perpetual license is no longer available (or so we are told by Cinesamples’ CEO; I’m not certain I believe it when he never had the plugin removed from retail partners). When they’re selling Musio 1 perpetual license for $149 or $179 on sale, the shortcomings of the player was far less important. But now that Musio is selling their libraries on a piecemeal basis for significantly greater cost and going head to head with with SoundPaint and UVI, it is a significant factor. I think Cinesammples / Musio makes beautiful sample libraries. They have long been one of the best sample developers in the business, IMO. But having a player so far behind the competition with very significant shortcomings like the inability to have presets — or even when they offer that, it won’t have many effects, so it won’t be very useful — is now a significant factor for any well-informed music producer / musician considering this purchase.
