Tagged: As
Cinesamples / Musio has released Musio Essentials, a free tier of their Musio subscription service — although they don’t call it a subscription — with 35 of their virtual instruments.
If you don’t already own a Musio 1 license or have a paid subscription, this is an absolute no-brainer. The quality of free instruments is exceptional. Cinesamples is clearly trying to compete more aggressively with 8Dio’s SoundPaint and NI and their free version of Komplete (Start) and that’s a win for everyone who uses sample libraries.
I’m excited for those on a very limited budget or no budget at all for sampled instruments, who now have even more excellent free sample libraries. This will easily go on LinkedMusicians list, Best Free Sample Libraries for Free Players.
These are some of the included libraries in the free version of Musio (their website states that they have 35 libraries in the free version; but the list shown on their site — shown below — is much smaller than 35 libraries):
Ancient Bones
CineLegacy: Harp
Create Series: Accent Pianos
Create Series: Kalimba
Create Series: Tonal Tickies
Create Series: Tongue Drum
Create Series: Toy Xylo
Create Series: Twisted Psaltry – Cinematic FX
Mister Rogers’ Celeste
I’ve just looked at that and was confused – as you say only 7 free instruments appear to be mentioned rather than 35!
(Sorry I haven’t been responding / posting much recently – been busy since our last holiday! I do look through the activity section every day though!)
No worries, Joe. I’m just happy to see you and I hope all is well.
I just asked Mike Patti about that in Musio’s Discord, and he said there are indeed 35 instruments — I’m guessing they’re counting various articulations as additional instruments — and that they’re adding more too. As I wrote earlier, with the libraries that SoundPaint, NI, and now Musio are giving away free, there’s never been a time when so many high-quality, realistic-sounding sample libraries were available completely free — in free players — as there are right now. This is how I am, I own their paid version, but I LOVE that someone with no budget at all can have such great-sounding, inspiring instruments to play. That is what motivated me to start my free best sample library lists in the first place. So I’m pretty excited about this news.
