I’m always surprised how little I hear about Acustica in the various audio pages I visit. You’d think they’d at least generate some buzz because they seem to have a different plugin approach. 😕
Some of their plugins are pretty good, but they can be a bit laggy when adjusting dials which isn’t ideal. They’re also pretty heavy on CPU. Oh and crazy amounts of disk space.. Apparently their poor CPU performance and disk space was all due to their copy protection which came to light when someone cracked their plugins semi recently. Another case of the paying customer getting an inferior product which is such a shame.
They have addressed a few of these things, so there has been some improvements in their newer releases.
But their pricing is still a bit pre 2000s.. People can get so much more bang for their buck these days. Both UA and Acustica Audio both used to charge top dollar and were often compared head to head and many compared equal, or close. UA regularly have bundles of plugins now for less than one Acustica plugin. So do Softube.
If Acustica starting competing price wise, stripped out all the redundant copy protection so each plugin wasn’t 5GB of disk space and lighter on CPU across their whole range, I think they would be everywhere.

I won’t get any because of their naming conventions. If I’m scrolling thru my plugins and see Coffee or Straw I’ll just skip them because I can’t tell what they do. I have enough choice paralysis as it is.
Studio One, Windows, RME UFX, Yamaha MSP7
Yep. It’s great having all these fancy names for plugins and while in Cubase I can create custom groups of particular types of plugins and like most DAWs you can show/filter by category, but if I’m looking for a delay, or tape, it’s just so much easier if it includes that detail in the name.
