Majetone have reduced the price of Truck Drums for a limited time, now only £14.00, (usually £25.00).
Majetone had a studio in a shed in an industrial yard…. (the yard!). Their neighbour had an old truck body that was rented out as workshop space.
When the old tenant moved out Majetone helped him clear some stuff out. Whilst in there, Majetone noticed the acoustics of the aluminium body and like all engineers they womdered how drums would sound great in the space’
So Majetone asked their landlord if they could record drums in there before the next tenant moved in, within a couple of days.
Because it was a busy and liyd industrial estate, Majetone have to record the library at night when there was silence as there was no soundproofing.
This has become a really popular library for its Bonham-esque huge drum sound!
Truck Drums requires a full version of Kontakt 5.8.1 or later.
I’ve owned this library for a few years.
I love the samples and vibe of the kit. It captures a Bonham-esque sound probably better than any drum sample library I know of.
I’ve also given feedback to the developer, who seems like a really nice guy. However, he never listened to any of my feedback and I really believe he should. The big flaw of this library is the mapping of the ride and crash cymbal. The low velocities of the same key give you a ride cymbal and the mid and upper velocities give you crash (I believe it’s the same cymbal, a ride/crash cymbal). I get what the developer was trying to do, but it ruins the playability of this library and after three years of him never addressing it, I doubt he ever will. The result? I don’t use this otherwise fantastic sounding library and I don’t buy other libraries from this developer. Not because he’s bad, not because I don’t like him — I think he’s talented and I do like him a lot. But I gave him thorough feedback on problems with the library and even threw in some marketing advice hoping that I might persuade him to do another mapping of the library that separates out the ride cymbal and crash like every other drum sample library. He appeared to listen to me, but in the years since then, he’s never done anything to fix the mapping.
If you know how to remap Kontakt drum libraries, this is worth getting. If you can live with the mapping, it’s well worth getting, but this developer could easily fix the problem with the library. For some reason, he chooses not to. I own another of his libraries too. I think he has talent. But it doesn’t mean much when the libraries aren’t fully playable, so until he addresses the problem with this library, I won’t be buying more his libraries. FTR, I’m cheering for him to fix the problem, but I’m not holding my breath.
