The other day, a good friend of mine texted me and told me he had an extra ticket available to a concert to see a few 90s rockers, STP, Live and Soul Asylum. I haven’t gotten out much lately, so I leapt at the chance to hang out with a great guy and hear a bunch of old rockers from the era I was playing.

3 CommentsThe lead singer (Ed?) had introduced a song he wrote about York — and I do love the York Peppermint Patty, which I learned from him is made in the town, or at least the company was founded there — although the lyrics for that song were pretty much Spinal Tap territory. I take it the song isn’t very appreciated there. I suppose I could name the…Read More
York Peppermint Patties were made in York, until Peter Paul, and then Hershey bought them. As a kid I used to walk to the factory from my grandmother’s house and buy factory seconds. Still love them.
And yea I recall “Sh-t Towne”, I will say York has come a long way since then, but the eighties it was going downhill.
The older Strand and Capital…Read More

A musician friend of mine recently posted this to Facebook. True. Plus Gilmour is one of my favorite rock guitarists.
2 Comments@cclarry is a talented rock guitarist and does a really good cover of a Pink Floyd song. I’d post it if he’s okay with it.

I thought this was pretty cool.

Reflecting on this day, 23 years ago and my very non-marketing experience handling a forum for 9/11 World Trade Center attack survivors.
I walked into my office in Chicago where I was Director of e-Business Strategy for a Fortune 200 that sustained the third-highest employee casualties in the WTC. By mid-morning I was part of a phone call with…Read More

– A Yamaha Synth 009 or something — I bought it 20 years ago for the nice semi-weighted key feel and having 88 keys
– A Roaland U20 rack mount from back in the day
– An Emu rack mount synth from back in the day
– A Nektar MIDI controller
– Two Tama acoustic drum kits, one maroon, one black
– A gold plated Steve Ferrone Pearl Snare Drum that…Read Morepeter posted in the group Open Mic (Open Discussion)
I want to thank two major rock stars.
@cclarry — he’s literally the reason that the Cakewalk Deals subforum (it was just part of their Coffee House Forum, you couldn’t even find it easily; what Ashwin from BandLab calls “the legacy forums; used by an older demographic that BandLab doesn’t really care about) — exist, he’s the person that made…Read More

Can’t see the 6.5×14 Gretch Phosphorus Brass Snare but it’s there. Also, I have a 6.5×14 Black Beauty and a 6.5×14 Maple Snare.

I actually just sold my ’66 Strat and ’69 LP Deluxe this Summer because they were stupid valuable and I would have to climb out of my grave if my kids sold them at an estate sale for a pittance.
I still have:
90’s Gibson Tennessean (favorite- sounds like a 335)
90’s Takamine Classical (favorite) and easiest to play with arthritis
70’s…Read More2 CommentsIf I could play, I’d definitely want a Les Paul. My brother had a red one when I was a kid, and the first rock album I bought at 5 years old was Led Zeppelin III, which I still love. Jimmy Page cemented my love for the Les Paul. But I’m sure if I played guitar instead of drums that my back might not have agreed with the Les Paul choice.

@thor told me that he wasn’t able to upload his gear photos to this GROUP, so I’m testing it out.
peter posted in the group Gear-aholics Unanimous
Okay, I just saw that my friend @thor — a talented musician who composes music for video games — posted a bunch of gear photos on his Facebook page earlier today. I added back the ability to upload photos and other images. I’m iffy about keeping that function when the site allows public registration, but for a group this size, it’s fine and we…Read More

I’m not complaining (spoiler: I’m complaining), but I share office space with my wife and have to listen to the same 80s songs every day from a streamed local radio station. Right now it’s Madonna’s “Lucky Star.” I’m pretty sure this is the stuff the FBI uses to get kidnappers and cultists hold up in buildings to force them out. A person can on…Read More

How did the Coffee House Forum come about? I originally created a Coffee House Forum prior to launching the site, but I deleted it. I didn’t think the Coffee House needed a forum. But the one that exists is really messed up formatting-wise.
Do users have the ability to create forums? @bapu did you create it? I’m not complaining, I’m just wonde…Read More

Great to see your Thor! I was hoping you’d show up soon! I’m not sure that I’ve told you the story that led to me creating this (for those reading this who are not Thorsten, he’s a long time friend of mine who is a musician / composer who does music for games who wasn’t part of Cakewalk Forums). Most of the people in the forum…Read More

Just a reminder, if you find issues with the site, DO NOT REPORT IT HERE, this is supposed to be a place to chill. And I’m not chilling when you guys post stuff I have to fix here. 🙂 I originally thought the EARLY ADOPTERS GROUP would be best for that, but I’ve realized that a forum is the best fit for it, so I created a subforum and I made it…Read More

@bapu the post where you asked how to upload an image doesn’t permit me to reply due to an issue with that plugin. But I’ve since replaced that plugin with another one and it’s pretty straightforward. To upload an image from your computer just use the image button. To link to an image or video elsewhere, use the link button. Try it and let me…Read More

I’m trying a different media uploading plugin, as I believe the other one was causing issues with the edit and reply functions disappearing.

About Me

Ross
Musician, Singer, Producer
Lifelong musician (I'm old now, lol!), home recording enthusiast for 25+ years (primarily Cakewalk/Sonar user). I started as a piano player as a kid, got into singing in my teens, played in a number of bands in L.A and Vegas in the 1980's (I grew up in Vegas). Did some analog recording in those early days, and got into digital/home based recording in the late 90's. Basically a hobbyist at this point, just having fun recreating songs from the soundtrack of my life, experimenting with new (to me) musical forms and genres, and lately collaborating with other musicians online. Looking forward to interacting with other passionate players and producers on this forum!
