We just went over 100 members — and this is just the beta test group! That’s a pretty nice size beta test group — er, Early Adopters. Yeah, Early Adopters sounds much cooler, right? 🙂
So, I finally got the DNS situation for linkedmusicians emails worked out and should have system emails set up by this weekend. After that’s been thoroughly…Read More

Hello everyone, I just wanted to let you know that I’m signing up a bunch of folks from Cakewalk Forums today. Be sure to keep letting people know about this community, that’s how we grow. It looks like public registration will begin next week. Please let others know that they can be registered for the site by sending an email to lin…Read More
3 Comments@Kirean If someone told you this stuff and you didn’t know it first hand, it would be hard to believe. And still BandLab refuses to fix the more than a dozen times they had data breaches and exposed my real name on their site. Mark them down as incredibly unprofessional.
I’m not well-versed in nor really who who is who behind the scenes, but I guess the ban hammer might have come from upstairs. Yet all my years ‘online’ and going through forums/message boards in all kinds of fields, I really haven’t seen a platform ban all mentions to competitors (DAWs in this case) like that. Then again, being new to music…Read More

So I might have had three cups of coffee today and I’m presently contemplating a fourth cup. This might be my all-time record, but it’s probably not.

I believe I made a new friend last night. It was good to talk to you @mibby
Has anyone else in the community recently picked up the phone and called a community member you made friends with in this group?
I visited a friend I made at KVR in New Zealand, another (Ben, Camel Audio), in Scotland, another in Chicago… I’ve always found it exc…Read More

Happy Friday,
If you look on the navigation bar to the left of this post, you’ll notice an expandable menu item labeled “Cake to LM Equivalent Links.” These are links to LinkedMusician’s equivalents to the Cakewalk Deals subforum, the Coffee House and the Songs forum; the three main places most of this community spent time at over at the…Read More

BTW, you’re really doing a good job with this forum, it’s looking great👍
1 CommentThanks. There are some things being worked on, so it’s only going to get better. But there’s been a lot of progress in the last 4 weeks. I would guess I’ve easily put 300 hours into this. It’s far exceeded a hobby project. I really haven’t done a community site of my own since the 00s, which became the site that made my career after going viral.…Read More

Both of my kids, teenagers, hide their Spotify playlists from me. I’m told I get too “cringey” when I talk about music. Maybe thats why I appreciate this group so much! But yesterday, my wife was playing my daughter’s Spotify playlist and I was amazed at how many songs I turned her on to were on her Playlist. Songs from Radohead, Jeff Buckley,…Read More

If you’re looking to find the Groups visit The Wall and look at the widget (block) on the right-hand side and select a Group. They’re all still available and fully usable. I’ve merely been trying different configurations to see if when I cut back to a single wall, if it might result in the community more actively using the social walls. So far, it…Read More

The Cure is getting set to make their 2024 return official, teasing the arrival of the lead single from their forthcoming Songs of a Lost World — “Alone” — set to drop later this week.

I’ve given advice to more than three dozen sample and plugin developers over two decades. I haven’t talked to any of them about joining yet. I wanted to wait until we were opened it to public registration next month. But the word is starting to get out. I can see that there’s an interest.

2 CommentsPeter’s a friend of two decades. I don’t know if, from a business perspective, IK would want him to invest too much time when the community is small, but I do think he’d like what we’re doing here. What are some of the things that most inspire you to play and/or write music?
4 CommentsSimple. I turned 11 years old the day The Beatles landed in the USA for the first time (7 Feb 1964). I saw them on Ed Sullivan both times they appeared. That was all I needed even though I didn’t actually fully start until 3 years later when I got my first electric guitar (not bass) and met up with kid I went to school with in the 5th grade who…Read More

How would you name the social media accounts for a music project, when the 1:1 version is already taken? Would you go with:
– project_official
– project_band
– project_musicor something else? This is currently more of a solo effort, though any live performances would require a band. I’m personally leaning towards the project_music, but…Read More
3 CommentsI would tend to go with ProjectOfficial or project-official next.
I would not want to use the _ character as users tend to not remember that and there may be times you’re telling people and they’re not reading something and there’s also the fact that some people may see something and not do it immediately and rely on memory. There’s been a lot…Read More
Got it, no pressing enter while typing without pressing shift, too. And edit doesn’t work on Firefox, it seems.
Anyway, like I was saying, I was focusing more on the suffix, but I suppose I should consider the separator, too. The “official” feels like something that big names use when there are dozens of unofficial accounts. It also feels like I…Read More
Generally they say to avoid the underscore, and also the dot. RealProject would be another good alternative. Only 4 extra characters, looks professional and generic if Project switches to something else so it will still work. Have you experienced this ZEN state after practicing your instrument for like more than 20/30 minutes, so focused, non stop?
I love it and at some point experiencing it, it’s like you don’t exist anymore (scary thought but it’s awesome).3 CommentsI’ve felt that experience more when playing with other musicians. While I have been doing multitrack recordings since I was a kid, playing alone never came close to the experience of playing with other musicians. I think the closest I’ve come since tendonitis stopped my ability to play with other musicians — as I often can’t get through a minute…Read More
Aw, well, this feeling I have experienced is out of this world. Focusing on a riff for like 20/30 minutes without thinking is awesome. You don’t even think if you are doing it right or wrong, what finger goes to what fret, if you press it hard or soft. You just play and play and play. One of the best feelings I have experienced. Also, it motivates…Read More

Also been loving this update that we can have a wider variety of emojis (which I <3)1 CommentThanks for the feedback!
We can thank @fleer for the fact that we’re using these emoji reactions. As the early adopters or beta test users of LinkedMusicians,, you're seeing the site evolve pretty quickly and I'm testing what engages you and what doesn't. I knew when setting this site up that the forum would be easy for everyone to adjust to and the social media walls / Groups would take more time. All along one recurring thought I had was this: The integration of social media with an old school forum would likely be easier to understand and experience if there were only one social media wall. That would mean that, in the beginning, when the membership was small that there would be much more activity -- and the activity would be much broader. As all members would see it, they would be apt to see content that resonated with them and participate / engage. With that in mind, all of the next week I'm going to be conducting an experiment. I am going to pull back the existing Groups / Walls, including this one, and consolidate everything in a single wall. Just one place where we discuss whatever you want to discuss -- of course, related to music. In time, I plan on re-introducing additional Groups, but I believe, from my experience developing and nurturing online communities that this will provide the greatest user experience for the majority of community members at this point. I promise that I will monitor usage very closely and will be using your feedback and polls to make decisions that I believe will result in giving you the best possible experience at LinkedMusicians. Now, I'm going to hand the mic over to you and invite you to provide your candid thoughts on how we can make this section of the site -- the social walls / Groups more useful to you and what you think about this experiment.
What do you think about temporary scaling back the GROUPS to a single social media wall for LinkedMusicians1 CommentWe really should embrace the whole Cakewalk Forum banning any references to LinkedMusicians while allowing people to post links to every KVR, Gearspace, VI Control — and a bunch of affiliate marketing links. I thought BandLab was out of Singapore. I guess they must have relocated to North Korea. It takes some truly awful decision-making to end up…Read More

I was talking with a friend and talked about LinkedMusicians. How would you describe it?

@Doug I know Peter is still tweaking stuff, but for the past couple days there should be an exclamation point inside a gay dot next to forum posts. If the exclamation is green, there are new posts- click on the (!) to jump to unread. If the exclamation is light gray on gray, nothing new since last visit. Are you seeing that?
4 CommentsAmusing typo and the editing function is presently not available (please don’t delete it!!!!) , but I consider the forum functionality complete. @Brian, as I have said before, I am partly colour blind and I cannot really see the difference between the green and the grey exclaimation points. To you the difference may be obvious but not to me. @Doug. My apologies- I didn’t catch your post about color blindness. I actually brought that up to Peter a couple days ago. That is likely indistinguishable for you, unfortunately. I think they…Read More
@bluescat, no worries. @peter has already reached out and I have offered to find some icons that might work. I had taken Peter’s comment that the site was feature complete to mean that green and gray exclaimation points were what was going to be used to identify read/unread messages. That was not his intent at all.

Hey @Peter; the site is really cooking! I haven’t visited the Group section for a while, but the changes have made it much more “friendly” IMO.
