This thread will serve to notify the community when:  

• New Kontakt sample libraries have been released and being reviewed for consideration for inclusion in the LinkedMusicians’ Curated List of Best Free Kontakt Instruments or when new free sample libraries have been added to the list (we’ve been having updates multiple times per week for the past several weeks).
• When a community member submits a library for consideration on the list. When you find an excellent new free Kontakt sample library (or any Kontakt sample library not already included in the list) that you believe is excellent and worthy of being included on the list, please post it in this thread.

If you want to receive email notifications when updates are made to this thread — which will be due to either me adding a new library for consideration or addition to the list or when someone else posts about a new library  for consideration — please click the option below this thread that reads: “Notify me of follow-up replies via email.”

I’ve added some new Kontakt sample libraries to the list. As always, I only add Kontakt instruments I find to be high quality. To be really candid, when I see other lists of Kontakt sample libraries, they’re often clearly thrown together to get search engine rankings, as there are libraries included that are in nowhere even close to the level of quality and articulations on my list. For example, I see lists with piano libraries where only a few notes in each octave were sampled. There are only 1 or 2 layers and no round robins, and the samples aren’t even polished, professional work. I’ve found that there’s enough free libraries out there that there’s no need to put those kind of libraries on there. The quality of some of the piano sample libraries on my list is really surprising for free libraries. And not just one or two, but several of them contain 4 or more velocity layers and sound great. In just about every category, there are libraries that I would have happily have paid for. This list took 3 years of downloading, playing and assessing libraries, and I’ve found, there’s some great stuff out there for free for the full version of Kontakt and for the Free Player.

I just added three Kontakt libraries to the Curated List of Best Free Kontakt Instruments. One instrument is a beautiful sounding reed pump organ. Another is a very Tron-ish, vintage synth recorded onto cassette that I absolutely love. The last is a very cinematic, drenched in reverb piano library.

Several new Kontakt instruments have been added to the list, some real gems. I have a few more discoveries I haven’t found on any other lists that I have to spend time with (I’ve personally tested every library I add to the list; if it’s not recommendation-worthy, I don’t add it).

New Kontakt libraries were added to the Best Free Kontakt Instruments list. We still don’t have a fix for the subscription button/link in the forums. Existing subscriptions continue to work. I’ll send a message to everyone when we have the subscribe option working again.

I just added several excellent free sample libraries to the Best Free Kontakt Instruments List, including one Top Pick, a beautiful harp with 3 velocity layers and round robins, that easily could have been a paid library and a deep sampled viola library that normally sells for $79. If you’re looking to find the newly added sample libraries, I put the new libraries at the top of their category lists, so check the top of each category list.

As the page load time for the list is getting pretty heavy, which has led me to stop embedding audio demos, in the next several weeks, I’m going to be redoing the page and making it one page that links out to all of the category pages. As always, if you know of new Kontakt libraries that you believe are worthy of making the list, please share them.
