While I am maintaining two lists of free sample libraries that are linked to on the main site menu to the left of this post, I’m going to be creating threads of what I believe are the absolute best free sample libraries and VST instruments by instrument category. I call them “Peter’s Picks.” I’ve just posted the first one, focused on all types of…Read More

Describe the most challenging track you’ve had to mix recently and how you approached it. Provide a link to the track if you can.

I’ve always had a love and joy in discovering new music and new artists. As we age, the tendency is to close our minds to what’s new and stay nostalgic for the familiar, and I definitely appreciate and love the familiar, but I haven’t lost my fascination with what’s new. I’d love to learn what new bands and artists people have recently discovered.

While I know that Rick Beato is not everyone’s “cup of tea”, I think he may be starting a new series for “discovering” artists. He did this video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U-HClpltznw) and as a result sent a LOT of people to her YouTube channel. Great listen

8 CommentsWait, you don’t like Queen? Unfriended!
I kid, I kid. But Queen was awesome.
I became a Rush fan in HS and stayed one since.
I don’t know what it is with Queen, but I don’t really enjoy listening to their music for fun and pleasure. Strange, but that’s me.
Back in the day, REO Speedwagon and, for the most part, Van Halen. These bands were really popular when I was in HS. Add Kiss to the list a little earlier. Just plain terrible, IMO. I still won’t forget the day my closest cousin — who was like a brother — told me at around age 13, that he decided that Kiss was a better band than Zeppelin.…Read More
1, Hole: for some reason everyone was crazy about Hole and I just couldn’t get into it.
Their 1st Disk: Pretty on the Inside: was just awful even thought it was produced by Kim Gordon of Sonic Youth (a band I love)
And then the 2nd Disk: Live Though This: Came out and everyone went crazy for that, and I still didn’t like the band.
But when the 3rd…Read MoreI would side with you regarding Hole and Boston. While I always liked Boston, I think I took Brad Delp’s voice for granted and didn’t even realize how good his vocals were on those classic albums until many years later. Now, Longtime is playing in my head. That was huge when I was a kid, and I loved it and still do. I suppose this is driving me to…Read More

4 CommentsTotal egomaniac with obvious anger management issues. Having worked as a drummer as a hired gun a lot, I’m familiar with working for ill tempered egomaniacs and have witnessed prima donna singers explode and throw a punch on stage, although never at me. I did read an article about the incident– and it was one of several with the singer raging at…Read More

It’s completely bonkers that one unstable BandLab employee, Jonathan Sasor, was permitted to completely trash Cakewalk Forum users, which resulted in my stating that he needed to apologize — that resulted in his banning me from that Forum, lashing out at cclarry, then suspending, censoring or even banning anyone for even mentioning…Read More

I’m listening to the music of my late friend Cory Pelizzari. Some folks — not enough for his talent — knew him as an influencer. I used to refer to him as the only influencer I ever respected (considering that I’ve known a bunch of influencers, I realize that may not sit well with people, but it’s true). Like all the rest of us, Cory was…Read More

The news of the popular and much-respected drummer’s death was announced yesterday on his Facebook page by his wife Jessica Rushton. Guy, who played with English rock band Rachel Stamp, punk legends Sham…Read More1 Commentpeter posted in the group Open Mic (Open Discussion)

Tuesday night, a good friend of mine texted me to tell me that he had an extra ticket to a concert to see a few 90s rockers, STP, Live and Soul Asylum. Seeing some good ol’ rockers and old friend sounded good to me, so I quickly said yes. He even offered to pick me up. Pretty nice.

2 Commentstell me how many songs you can name with a placenta reference in it?
I’m shocked Alice Cooper didn’t come up with that🤪
Live is an awesome band Throwing Copper rocks.
Stone Temple Pilots are one of my favorite bands, Interstate Love Song rules, too bad about Weiland.
Soul Asylum was pretty cool, Somebody to Shove was an okay song.🤘I did look up the bands and none of them have the original members. Live is only the original lead singer of the band, who doesn’t get along with his former bandmates, so he sued, is using the band name, and has a bunch of different musicians. Soul Asylum is also only the lead singer. STP the original musicians with a different lead singer who…Read More

3 CommentsLive, from my hometown of York, PA Of course I was gone when they were forming and playing locally:-(
The lead singer (Ed?) had introduced a song he wrote about York — and I do love the York Peppermint Patty, which I learned from him is made in the town, or at least the company was founded there — although the lyrics for that song were pretty much Spinal Tap territory. I take it the song isn’t very appreciated there. I suppose I could name the…Read More
York Peppermint Patties were made in York, until Peter Paul, and then Hershey bought them. As a kid I used to walk to the factory from my grandmother’s house and buy factory seconds. Still love them.
And yea I recall “Sh-t Towne”, I will say York has come a long way since then, but the eighties it was going downhill.
