On peter saidKirk shared a few observations with me after using the forum. One of them reflected a very simple thing that’s easily fixed. He found it confusing that people were quoting him without using quotes.
I am confused. When you say “people are quoting him without using quotes”, are you talking about quoting things he has said on other forums, or quoting his posts like I have done yours. Because, quoted posts are currently set apart from the follow up post text by a vertical grey bar and indented text. Not sure that quote marks would really add anything. Also, I did not see anyone quoting Kirk at all.
I’m referring to literal quotations, not the system formatting. This group has a habit of taking copy from developer’s emails and websites verbatim and not using quotes around it. Consequently, a developer or someone unfamiliar with that habit will likely be confused over whether the words in the post are from the person who made the post or they came from the developer of the product. So for example, this is the difference. Current style:
True Samples, makers of ultra-deep Kontakt sample libraries — known for creating the world’s greatest electric piano sample libraries in existence — are offering their once in a lifetime deal on their Epic Piano library. Now only $129 US until October 29, 2024.
Quotes should be used so that the reader understands the copy is not coming from the poster but someone else. For example:
“True Samples, makers of ultra-deep Kontakt sample libraries — known for creating the world’s greatest electric piano sample libraries in existence — are offering their once in a lifetime deal on their Epic Piano library. Now only $129 US until October 29, 2024.”
