Installed?!?
Technically, that’s an affiliate marketing site, so linking to it violates our policy, but I’ll let it stick around as I realize that it has a measure of usefulness.
Just be aware that the tool is not really doing what it claims. It only shows the lowest price entered in its system for the websites that give it a kickback if you click their link. Any sites that don’t give them a kickback are excluded from being part of the data set. Google has a similar tool, but it doesn’t work great with this niche yet.
I’ll be creating one for LinkedMusicians that will use AI, and I’ll try to feed it everything. But MSD’s entire model is an affiliate marketing scheme, not giving you accurate research tools. My mission is to give people better tools and remove bias.
I’d suggest using MSD as a guide, but skip clicking their link (they’ll drop cookies on your desktop or device to ensure your purchases are tracked to them and they get a kickback on what you buy).
Hey @Peter, this is not entirely correct. I spoke with the guy a few times when he was setting up the MSD site. He was taking suggestions from the CW forum users for usability and which stores they wanted to see on the site. It’s true, he DOES have some affiliate links and he says so on his site. (Attached? I’m not certain it worked. It’s at the bottom of the MSD home page.)
But, he by no means limits his stores to those that offer him affiliate links. He scrapes the various websites for the prices and sales, etc. (He had problems with JRR with the way they display their prices which is why they are not on there.)
I see it as a “service” for us plugin addicts and he helps pay for it with affiliate links if they are offered.
Personally, I think it’s a brilliant idea and it has been very useful to me. I wish I had thought of it. 🙂
