Superior Drummer 3 is as close to perfect as I can think of for an acoustic drum plugin. I love the capabilities and qualities. I only wish Toontrack priced libraries lower than they do. Otherwise, these guys are as good as it gets, IMO, and once you get into their ecosystem — as I have — it’s difficult to want to buy drum libraries in another format. I love the idea of having more choices for drums and cymbals with each new SDX and EZX. And I’ve found the quality level of each of these expansions is very, very high. I have zero concerns of being disappointed after listening to a preset playthrough demo of an expansion.
If this were my review of SD3 and expansions, I’d say that they’re an easy 5/5, A spectacular drum plugin and expansions…but pricey.

Also @peter, I hope you take advantage of the SDX 3 serial pack from Best Service. 3 serials you can use at will for $312, that $104 per SDX, which beats the typical $179 price for an SDX.

Ha. I would, but I spent my music budget on a website!
I think the only expansion I’ve been yearning for — which I should have bought last year on a deal — is the Alt Rock EZx and it’s now sentimental. Back when I was in college — I paid my way through college by working full time selling printing, including doing posters for a bunch of Chicago record labels like Touch and Go Records, Pravda, Alligator Records…and playing drums. I did a poster for Steve Albini’s band through Touch and Go Records. I really respected Steve and his work. I think he was one of the good guys — and a very unique individual. So I’m hoping Toontrack discounts that again. My contact at Touch and Go Records, was the boss, Cory Rusk, who is a wonderful guy. I remember — I even did a poster for Nirvana before they made it — that Cory turned Nirvana down and he lamented to me about how Butch Vig’s rates skyrocketed after Nirvana’s breakthrough — and who could blame Butch? But that didn’t happen with Steve. Steve’s rates said the same after his big breakthrough because the guy had this really amazing, and rare, ethic. He was the real deal. And I really appreciated his work too. So I really need to pick up that EZX.
We should do a thread on our favorite and least favorite expansions. Maybe I’ll start one. There are some I’d be game to trade for others (I realize it’s like 15 bucks, so I’m just thinking about SDX packs). To your point about only using ezDrummer, SDx are definitely far more than a hobbyists like me needs to be happy. One of my favorite expansions — whether SDX or EZX — is EZX Custom Shop. I absolutely love it. The quality of EZX is absolutely fine for my purposes.
