It’s interesting how we all analyze Waves doing an offer like this. Some praise it as smart, others view it with suspicion (myself included).  I hope they stick with this. Clearly, they’re trying to hook new customers like most of their competitors have long been doing, by giving away some  products as freebies. Of course, it’s a good foot in the door and establishes a permission marketing channel with new customers. The situation is a bit murky with existing customers who paid for these plugins. They may feel less enthusiastic. I own a few of the freebies, but I love the idea of no WUP for them. As far as your willingness to pay a little more for a plugin to avoid WUP, considering that WUP is an annual fee that would do more than raise a $29 US sale plugin to $39, Waves would likely be looking to charge much more than that to eliminate WUP. It’d be fascinating in seeing the percentage of their customers who purchase WUP for their plugins.

I thnk, considering Waves WUP practices and their past subscription fiasco, they should have done a better job clarifying this offer and proactively addressing suspicions. But that’s me with my marketing and branding strategy hat on. As a plugin user, I’m happy to get these. I would imagine with Waves always on sales, they’ve likely worn out the market, don’t have great conversion rates, and are probably exploring new ways to drive more sales.
