My family would be very unhappy if I turned speakers on or even attempted to play my drums or percussion — I suppose with the exception of my glockenspiel. So, consequently, it’s all MIDI controllers, electronic (MIDI) drums, and headphones for me from start to finish. And my hearing isn’t great, so I need everything loud to hear the various frequencies.

I’d be interested in learning how many of us share our music publicly or with family or friends. While I played semi-professionally pretty actively, I worked as a drummer and wasn’t playing songs that I wrote.  Even in the most popular band I played in, doing decent-sized venues (2,000 or so people), colleges, and festivals, the lead singer wrote the songs and wouldn’t even listen to anyone else’s music. So, it was more than 20 years after those days where I first publicly shared music where it was just me playing the various instruments and singing. At first it was embarrassing because I know I don’t have a very good voice and am no longer able to play very well, but as time went by, I got over it.
