I don’t think you are going to get a lot of answers because there are probably not a lot of people who have Analog Pro and don’t have either Pigments or the full collection. And for this you need someone who has just Analog Pro, because if you have any other Arturia product, there is no way of sorting the factory presets for those products vs the factory presets for other Arturia synths.
I remember a lot of the Analog Lab presets having the same balance of bread and butter vs unique sounds as the factory presets that come with your average plugin, but I never really used it that much prior to getting the V Collection. I was impressed that they gave you a fair amount of control of the patches through the macros. I also think that owning this put me in the tier that got me a lower priced upgrade to the whole collection.
I also own Pigments, which I should point out is not part of the V Collection. I’ve spent a fair amount of time programming patches for it. There’s a lot you can do with it and it just keeps getting better (updates have been free). You may have noticed that a good percentage of the expansion packs are solely for Pigments – this is because it is relatively easy to get a good variety of useful sounds out of it.
Regard the preset packs, I tend to like the tribute packs of artists I am not familiar with more than those that I know well. It’s too easy to criticize a patch for not sounding enough like “1999” or whatever, but if I see a patch called “Bay of Figs” I tend to judge it on its own merits, regardless of whether I like the song it was taken from or not. That being said, I probably will get the Thom Yorke tribute pack.
I think for the same $39, you might not get as many sounds by buying the packs but you will probably get a lot more of the sounds that you want.
