This is about as personal as it gets. Today, my tendinitis is very bad, and I’m concerned I may have an injury. Consequently, I simply won’t be able to do the deals that I usually put up. I figured, at some point, I’d have problems. I may be able to come back to it today, but, frankly, I don’t want to cause my tendonitis to get to the point where I’m back in physical therapy, so this is my appeal to the community.
I created this community never expecting that I would be spending my days posting deals. I hope the community can come through. I believe we’re building something special, but I can’t sustain posting deals all of the time with my tendinitis and how much time it takes. If anyone here wants to PM me, I can give you sources of groups that post a lot of deals. The job basically involves curating those deals—picking what fits our community best.
My hope is that the community isn’t too dependent on me posting. Personally, I loathe seeing 90% of the posts have my name on them. I was motivated to do this site for the sense of community and creating a friendlier, non-toxic environment, not really making this a deals site. 2,000 hours and a few thousand dollars later, it’s pretty clear that most of the initial group wants a deals site. I’m okay with that if I’m not posting constantly and causing my tendinitis to constantly have issues. I hope others will step up. I love this community, but I need to keep my health in decent condition to run my business.
Regards,
Peter

My suggestion would for you to stop posting deals, and just rely on the community. You’ve done plenty here for the community. Rest your weary bones, and just see what happens. 🙂
Now, I completely understand how you think that would motivate people, but unfortunately, it would be a disastrous move for a site like this that is drawing traffic almost completely based on the quality and frequency of the deal posting. If I were to quit posting with no plan in place, in all likelihood, MANY (okay, the majority) visitors would never return and the site would quickly go into decline.
Making a community like this work takes a ton of effort. Right now, I’m posting A LOT, but there’s not much of the community posting. So if I stopped posting, most people would certainly stop returning to the site. I can say that with a high degree of certainty. I would need to line people up and get the system operating before I could stop posting all of the deals.

Understood, but maybe you are so fast, no-one has a chance to post 🙂
Or maybe we could break up the posters to handle specific companies.

Yeah, that’s exactly what I am proposing, that we divide and conquer and focus on specific developers / companies / retailers. But hey, there are a couple of people here who copy and paste my posts to Cakewalk Deals Forum. It’d be nice if someone could do the same in reverse. For anyone going to both places, if you see posts there that aren’t here, share them here. Larry grabs his deals off of a Facebook deal group that we’re both in (the real deal guru guys are Stu and Pedro — and by Pedro, I don’t mean me! It’s just a cut and paste from there or emails. There’s nothing really unique. The big value is having everything in one place. I mainly have these sources:
– Two subreddits (my top sources)
– Two Facebook Groups
– Dozens of developer and retailer emails, from Best Service, Plugin Boutique, Plugin Fox, D-Fused Sounds, etc.
– Press releases from MedlaProductions, Native Audio, etc.
And then I check Cakewalk Deals Forum to see if there are any stragglers that I’ve missed. My role has been to sift through all of that and curate it — posting what I think is relevant to our community. But it takes up a lot of time and it’s kept me from everything I had planned for the community to help it grow and to develop new areas of content. However, with no one sharing the load to a level that will keep the community coming back, I have no option but to keep going.
Now consider that I also have to maintain the site. Like any site, we regularly get hackers attacking the site and it’s a pretty complex with A LOT of components (scripts/plugins) that have to be kept up to date, so this has become a second job, and, of course, it’s a money pit, so I’ve pulled back on adding to functionality, as everything has to constantly be kept up to date, otherwise, the site can easily be hacked. Anyhow, sorry, I don’t want to come off as some kind of complainer, the world doesn’t need another geezer complaining! I love this community. I want to grow it. But right now, my wrists and elbow are burning and are in pain. I need to stop for the day. That’s my reality.
