Heya,
Especially with deals, there might be discussion of a deal after the deal has already ended. Currently the thread/post list of the forum shows only when the last reply was posted.
Thus, would it be possible to have “Posted on” date/time next to the “started by: <nickname>” (so started by nickname on 00/00/00) or elsewhere where it could be easily added without too much of a hassle.

I agree with you on this function. I personally have wanted it from the beginning.
What I found researching it is that it would take custom coding (there aren’t any plugins available that do that — as simple as I’m sure you and I agree that feature is), although I doubt it would cost much, I would guess I could get someone to do it for a couple hundred dollars based on a thread on the forum platform developer’s site. There’s a script that seems like it could do the job with some adaptation (I’m not comfortable with tweaking scripts and have already exceeded my budget for the site). So, what I can do is keep my eyes open to see if there are any other plugins that either (1) me and the one of the platform developers are not aware of, or (2) the site can bring in enough revenue or contributions where I can pay someone to add this functionality.
I’ve posted this before, I know we have developers here. If anyone has experience coding for WordPress and bbPress and is open to pitching in or can work for a reasonable rate, please contact me (I’ve avoided stating the platforms I’m using previously because I don’t want it spidered and indexed in search engines; however, I’ve since hidden this Forum from public view, so I’m comfortable sharing that in this section of the site).
Now here’s what I believe would be the optimal solution for this — that everyone formats topics to include the END DATE of a sale (if available, if not list the date when the sale was posted). What do you think of that idea?

On doug saidI would be willing to look at this gratis if you want. It shouldn’t be too difficult to add this feature to the thread view.
Doug Rintoul on the site which shall not be named
Yeah. I’d assume it’s just finding the right spot in the forum view template and throwing get_the_date and the_time on it (or whatever custom calls bbpress uses). Unless there’s already a setting for it in the admin view that’s just waiting to be enabled.
As for Peter’s suggestion, I’d say there could be more like a good post guideline in the deals forum. So if an end date is known, it could be added to the post title.
Generally I’d be quite conservative with adding more plugins/moving parts. Shape the ones to one’s will that are already in place and go calmly from there if/as/when necessary. WordPress can get occasionally quite choppy and pain to admin if hacks/plugins stop playing together for whatever reason.

I concur. You should not need a plugin to do something this simple. Before adding a plugin or modifying code, I would look at the settings for bbPress to see if there was an option available for this feature.
This would be a clever signature if I could think of one.
Take a look everyone. And a bunch of people asked for this. @lamia6 has been using bbPress (the forum platform) for a long time and codes. She wrote a plugin to do this just to be helpful. @doug you’re absolutely welcome to look at the settings, but I’ve researched this and one the bbPress team members directed someone to a script, making clear that there’s no way to do it without a script (bbPress is incredibly barebones). The guy has written a few of the plugins I use on this site.
But everyone who wanted this feature — it’s now live, and we have lamia6 to thank for it. I really can’t adequately convey how grateful I am to her. I sincerely have referred to her to my wife as one of my new best friends. She’s stepped up so many times to help me with this site. I hope everyone who wanted this feature will post their thanks to her, because I didn’t make it happen. She did.
