I can’t think of a dev that gives existing customers a better upgrade offer. I added 13 instruments this year for under $200 (Group Buy + Orange Slices + bundle discount)
Greg isn’t only a master at scripting libraries; he’s a master at getting beautiful tone. This really stands out from the other guitar libraries about the Orange Tree Samples libraries. The tone is always fantastic. Of course, that has a lot to do with the physical instruments, micing, EQ’ing, the musician who played the sampled instrument. I don’t think enough is written about this — especially by the influencers making videos. But some of the most popular guitar sample library developers who have sophisticated scripting don’t nail tone as well, IMO. Greg spent some of his foundational years in the business at Cinsamples where they made some fantastic libraries.
I use Evolution libraries in nearly every project and most of the time I end up using the factory presets even though I own a bunch of guitar and bass amp sims and effects. The presets are just that good. Listening to the preset demos in the video, my favorite presets (BTW, I make these lists and save them in documents — so I just figured I’d share it here):
Evening Tea
Fairly Airy
Jobim Mornings
Mellow Fellow
Morning Bossa
Mothervine
Pop Top End
Pure Ambient Butter
Room for Practice
Soulful Nylon
Thinking Medow
Tonal Anguilarity
Warped Cassette
Will It Jazz
I’d love to know what presets are other people’s favorites. Listening to the presets really helps me to mentally have a place for a sampled instrument. So, next tiime I’m working on a song and have a certain kind of sound in mind, I’ll know which instrument to reach for. I’ve become extremely familiar with the Evolution guitars and basses. When I want a very Beatle-esque tone, I’ll grab the Rick 12-string electric guitar and the Vintage Violin Bass, the latter has become my go to for most projects. When I want a straight up rock guitar, I want the Evolution Rock Standard, a Les Paul and/or Evolution Stratosphere. When I want something raw and disctintive I might reach for Evolution Texas Twang — and often like to pair that with an amp sim, as I’ve come up with some combinations I love.
