Free is… FREE so I can’t argue with that, but my favorite gain staging tool is still Hornet VU Meter MK4. It’s on sale for another week (along with everything at Hornet) for 81% off – 1.14 Euro. I think people overlook this cheap plug because, “who needs another VU mater in a DAW?”. The best feature is that multiple instances talk to each other. Drop it in the top slot of every track, enable ONE instance, hit play, and ALL the tracks will have their individual gain trims set based on peak level hit.
