State of LinkedMusicians – July 2025

The below information comes from the latest results based on the LinkedMusicians website analytics. They analyze the past 28 days and compare them against the prior 28 day period.

LinkedMusicians’ visits and views are growing at a healthy rate. We’re a very young site — we’ve only been open for public registration for several months with zero paid promotion — and site traffic is growing each month by steady rates (it’s far from a viral sensation, but it’s steadily growing). We’re seeing more traffic from other music-related forums, from the big social media platforms (especially Reddit), search engines, and AI. The greatest challenge I see is that the conversion rate — lurkers converting to registered users — is very low. The vast majority of visitors to this site — by around 17 to 1 — are unregistered lurkers. There are changes to the site on the way that are specifically focused on increasing the conversion rate (converting anonymous visitors to registered members), but the biggest reason that the conversion rate is low is due to the lack of engagement on the threads. As long as that activity is low, we’re not going to see a decent conversion rate.

So, all of you can really help this community grow by

(1) commenting and sharing your experiences and opinions on threads — it’s vital to this community.

(2) telling others about LinkedMusicians and telling them compelling reasons to join.

I couldn’t help, out of curiosity, but compare how our threads with the same deals compare to the views over at Cakewalk Forum. While they often beat us out for engagement—which is incredibly important — we often beat them out for views. How do I know? Cakewalk Forum lists views for each thread (ours don’t, but is found in the site’s analytics reports). Granted, Cakewalk Forums is pretty much dead, so it’s not exactly a big boast, but considering that we pimarily grew out of there, it does show that we’re moving right along.

Very good news. LM has had its highest day of new registrations since we’ve opened the site up to public registration. As I shared earlier, the site’s traffic has been steadily increasing each month, but the conversion rate from lurkers to registered visitors has been pretty low and today represents a significant improvement in the conversion rate.

What caused the conversion rate to improve so greatly? It’s ridiculously simple, and those of you with backgrounds in marketing or running websites — especially those with experience being part of managing community sites or e-commerce sites — will give this a great big  — duh! The improved conversion can be attributed to putting up a little section in the upper right-hand part of forum pages that reads, “Join Today, It’s Free!”  I knew that doing that would have a significant impact, but it’s great to see it finally happen.

LinkedMusicians is rising in search engines and generative AI.

For Google, in the US, our position for “free kontakt libraries” moved up to 12. For “free kontakt instruments” we moved up to 19. Granted, these days, being in the top 5 is what matters. But we’re headed in that direction and having the largest curated list of tested, reviewed, and recommended free Kontakt instruments makes a big difference.

Keep sharing our free lists in places where it will be of interest / use to people.
