LinkedMusicians has been taking off, surpassing 10,000 unique monthly visitors per month. This has largely been driven by our deals forum and curated list of the best free Kontakt sample libraries, featuring the web’s largest list of reviewed and recommended sample libraries (the two most popular sections of LM).
We clearly all love virtual gear, whether it’s a deal or free. But we’re clearly using that gear to make music. And, I suppose, being the son and brother of music teachers, I think a lot about how to help others grow– and making resources more accessible (I originally created LM with the idea that I would focus on all of the learning content and free resources, and another person would be the deal master, posting most of the deals; so I only took that role out of necessity, and the fact that (1) it drives most of our site’s visitts and (2) it helps to fund the operation of the site).
My objective for this site was never for it to be focused on being a deal site. I have always seen the deals as a part of a site that is focused on being a musician or music producer that makes music. Consequently, my objective for 2026 is to go beyond the deals, to take the next step. And, after more than a year of experimentation and study, I’ve come to the conclusion that the best way to start on that journey is to focus on practical tips and advice to help us all become better with (1) audio production and (2) musical performance. These are two areas that everyone who records musical performance using a DAW has an interest in. And those of us who have been doing this a long time – and that is a large percentage of our regulars – have advice to share and, I’m sure, are interested in quick tips that we can learn from.
Threads would include our own tips and embedded videos that we’ve found helpful. I’ve put together some examples from each area.
For the Producer-to-Producer Audio Production Tips & Advice, some topics might include:
– How to get a more live drum sound.
– Quick tips for removing background noise from your vocals.
– How to record an acoustic guitar.
For the Producer-to-Producer Musical Performance Tips & Advice, some topics might include:
– How to get a more realistic acoustic drum performance when you’re not a drummer and using a keyboard.
– How to get a more realistic guitar (or bass) performance when you’re playing virtual guitar.
– How to arrange strings for rock songs.
