I created this GROUP to be a place where we can post funny, completely ridiculous memes that make each other laugh, as well as meaningful and inspirational quotes. With that in mind, here’s a serious one.

My mother — a very talented pianist/organist and music teacher — would have enjoyed this! She used to say, “You’re only a musician because you play the piano. Drummers aren’t musicians.”

Back when I was a working musician, my day job was project manager of large direct mail marketing campaigns, including Columbia House and BMG music clubs (this will mean something to Americans of a certain age). I had a wall filled with Far Side comics and this was one of them.

Despite me being an atheist my second favourite quote is by Sibelius “Music is, for me, like a beautiful mosaic which God has put together. He takes all the pieces in his hand, throws them into the world, and we have to recreate the picture from the pieces.”

To keep the ball rolling – not a meme but my favourite musical quote – Vaughan Williams said about his very different & spiky 4th Symphony ””I don’t know whether I like it, but it’s what I meant!”
I love it!

I love this. Rock-Jazz-Fusion band, Vital Information, is given a song and are challenged to quickly come up with a unique arrangement. In this case, they are presented with the Soundgarden song, “Black Hole Sun,” and I think they absolutely kill it. Just a great job.

It was at least a decade and a half ago when I became familiar with singer/songwriter Reid Jamieson. He’s an incredibly talented artist from Vancouver. He has one of the best voices I’ve ever heard in rock and he’s a very talented songwriter. I might have learned of him through Wilco, as they are huge fans, and some band members worked with him…Read More

Just got round to listening as have been back on my old stomping ground of Bradford for a few days – nice!

We were there to see this Polish band for the first time after loving them since this album (with Nigel Kennedy on fiddle) was released https://youtu.be/FN5XrQoUiP0?si=ZIa4qdE8lU1nQuEd

Thanks kindly Peter! We sometimes feel like we are making music in a vacuum, shout outs like this keep us going 🙂

Another great Show of Hands song that moves me to tears when sung by thousands of voices at a folk festival

I’m so sorry to see this news. Billy Joel has canceled all scheduled concert performances due to being diagnosed with a brain disorder that has led to “problems with hearing, vision and balance.”
Billy Joel has been one of my favorite singer/songwriters since I was a kid and my own kids have grown up hearing his music around the house and in…Read More

Through his career, critics continuously panned his music as schmaltz. I find he’s one of the greatest American pop songwriters of all time, up there with the best around the world (Lennon/McCartney, Paul Simon, Carole King…).

Totally agree – a young female friend of mine (who is an astonishing fiddle player) sang Piano Man when she was first branching out into singing and her version is sublime

Here is Emily a while after that tentative beginning (with superb singer songwriter Dan Webster) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X-29G70sLq8

One of my old musician friends I played with for years has a younger brother that plays drums and sax semi-professionally named Dan Webster. I’m listening in my headphones, very nice. You know, I am a huge fan of of a bunch of Irish folk rockers like Damien Rice and David Gray from their early days on. In Chicago, there’s a place called The Old…Read More

I’m really looking forward to seeing the outstanding Canadian singer / songwriter James Keelaghan at the Black Swan Folk Club here in York, England in a few weeks time. His song ‘Cold Missouri Waters’ is possibly the most moving song I have ever heard and he has plenty more up to the same standard. Check him out – he’s a great performer too!…Read More

Cool. I wasn’t aware of James Keelaghan and his music before today.
Now, I know you probably think all I do is listen to rock and anything with loud drums (Animal from the Muppets is my hero, it’s true!), but I love folk rock. My father’s favorite band when I was a kid was SImon and Garfunkle, and I quickly became a fan of the great songs. This…Read More-
Another songwriter well worth listening to is Richard Shindell – this is one of his best songs – also covered by the magnificent English folk duo Show of Hands – check out their Witness CD

That song, “Santiago,” is lovely! I really like it a lot. That’s my favorite of the bunch. I’ll share this with my wife, I’m sure she’ll love it too. So, you succeeded in doing what I desired for this GROUP — to expose each other to new music and hopefully, with our minds and ears open, we’ll discover artists and music that is new and special to us.

Currently listening to…Radiohead.
Radiohead is one of the greatest bands of all time, IMO. They’re up there with my all-time favorite bands like The Beatles, Zeppelin, Yes, Genesis, and Steely Dan (okay, not really a band, but songwriters and a bunch of studio musicians). I’d consider The Beatles the greatest band of all time, but I’d…Read More

OMG, I LOVE THIS!!!! That’s a great shot! I love the guitar, the shirt looks very cool. It’s just plain awesome!
And you beat me to getting merch. I’ve been waiting until my son is finished with his college finals and place an order for the whole family. Personally, I want this exact shirt for myself — and it’s actually my son’s favorite color…Read More

Overheard at my house today while watching a recent concert video of a band that my wife and I met in our dating days back in the 90s.
ME: Wow, that drummer really looks old.
DAUGHTER: True. But we still love you, dad.
ME; Ouch! -

I am caught between these two names for the official LinkedMusicians stuffed bear. I want a name that's silly and fun -- and of course ties into the LinkedMusicians brand. Linkey does that, although it might lack enthusiasm. Shredward Van Fluffen is ridiculous, and I love that although I actually was never a Van Hellen fan -- it's simply the ridiculousness of it. I promise to include this bear in future photos and video. What do you think? If you have more suggestions, please post 'em! FTR, the name will only be shown on the listing, not the bear itself.
Which name do you prefer for the official LinkedMusicians stuffed bear?1 Comment -

Tell me about an artist you really enjoy that’s not super popular that came out within the last decade or so.
There’s a bunch for me, but lately, I am listening to a lot of Madison Cunningham, and my wife is as into her music as I am. I would describe her sound as what you might come up with if you put the music of Jeff Buckley, The Beatles, and…Read More

Spring and Summer here means garden and yard work. The soundtrack of which (for me) is “Thump-a Thump-a Thump-a…” to keep me moving. Just the usual pop/EDM artists, I’m afraid.

Okay, well, I’m still interested. @bluescat, who are some of the artists you’re listening to? Is there anything you recently heard that you ended up putting on repeat? You might be listening to some music that I’m not very familiar with — and that goes for others here too. Please do tell! Even if it’s not new to us, it’s still interesting to…Read More

Dave Guetta (et al), Daft Punt, Deadmau5 Kaskade, etc for “Thump-a”. When I am in a reminisce mood, I put on some Beach Boys, Queen, Dire Straits, Doobies, Toto, CCR, Steely Dan… Gotta be up-tempo so I don’t fall asleep leaning on my shovel. I actually have a suntan going already. I’m gonna get kicked out of the nerd union.

I do have lawn to mow I need to find my earbuds. Yard work is a lot more pleasant when there are good tunes playing. I usually like something chill when i’m doing yardwork. Although, when the lawnmower is on, I might switch to something more aggressive to drown out the sound. I enjoy all of the bands you listed a lot — maybe with the exception of…Read More

/Drifting topic, this is the wall/ I used to use wired earbuds that fit well under my hearing protection muffs. I decided to buy some bluetooth buds with ANR for a recent trip so I wouldn’t have to lug my Sony ANR cans on the plane. I bought some Anker/Soundcore Liberty 4 buds and I love them. I was born with a birth defect in my inner ears. I’ve been through around a dozen surgeries. I have had a fairly serious hearing loss since I was a kid, because of that, very bad tinnitus and hearing-related issues that I don’t want to list publicly. It’s all part of why I look at the fact that with tendinitis, hearing loss, and tinnitus, I…Read More

Another incredible life performance. She’s won a Grammy, but still not very well known. Her guitar playing is killer on this too. It’s nuanced, it’s jazzy. The song goes from 4 to 7. It’s just such a great, locked in groove. It really makes me miss live performance.

Millie Manders and The Shutup, it kinda reminds me of Pink. Good voice, and very catchy pop. Olcay Bayir does have a lovely voice! It’s cool how different these two bands are and you enjoy them both! I’m right with you. I don’t really care what genre something is, I’m open to all of it. Nice share!

yeah I’m as eclectic as owt 🙂 I went to see Saor, a death metal Celtic band, a few months ago! Those were two genres I would never imagine co existing. I prefer Olcay’s vocals though 🙂

What was odd was that I couldn’t reply to your comment @peter

When it hits 9 nested tables, you can’t reply to a reply anymore. Facebook and Reddit go 10. I’m not sure why this was written to stop at 9. I’m sure lamia6 could do a much better job of explaining it and why they might have stopped at 9 instead of 10.

Just go to the last spot where you can choose reply to keep things together. But I like the free flowing real time capability of the GROUPS. It’s clearly a knock off of Facebook. It’s far superior to the forum for free flowing conversations. The forum is great for storing things we want to share for a while with a large audience. But the GROUPS…Read More
