Tell me about an artist you really enjoy that’s not super popular that came out within the last decade or so.
There’s a bunch for me, but lately, I am listening to a lot of Madison Cunningham, and my wife is as into her music as I am. I would describe her sound as what you might come up with if you put the music of Jeff Buckley, The Beatles, and, Joni Mitchell into a blender and then threw in some jazz guitar influences.
She’s a gifted songwriter, singer, and guitarist.

Okay, well, I’m still interested. @bluescat, who are some of the artists you’re listening to? Is there anything you recently heard that you ended up putting on repeat? You might be listening to some music that I’m not very familiar with — and that goes for others here too. Please do tell! Even if it’s not new to us, it’s still interesting to learn about everybody’s tastes.

Dave Guetta (et al), Daft Punt, Deadmau5 Kaskade, etc for “Thump-a”. When I am in a reminisce mood, I put on some Beach Boys, Queen, Dire Straits, Doobies, Toto, CCR, Steely Dan… Gotta be up-tempo so I don’t fall asleep leaning on my shovel. I actually have a suntan going already. I’m gonna get kicked out of the nerd union.

I do have lawn to mow I need to find my earbuds. Yard work is a lot more pleasant when there are good tunes playing. I usually like something chill when i’m doing yardwork. Although, when the lawnmower is on, I might switch to something more aggressive to drown out the sound. I enjoy all of the bands you listed a lot — maybe with the exception of CCR and Dire Straits. They’re okay, but I LOVE Queen, Steely Dan, really like the Doobies, and Toto. I’m not a huge Beach Boys fan, but “God Only Knows” is one of my favorite songs ever (“Somebody to Love” is another favorite of mine). “Pet Sounds” is definitely my favorite of their albums.

/Drifting topic, this is the wall/ I used to use wired earbuds that fit well under my hearing protection muffs. I decided to buy some bluetooth buds with ANR for a recent trip so I wouldn’t have to lug my Sony ANR cans on the plane. I bought some Anker/Soundcore Liberty 4 buds and I love them. I’m old and have hearing loss and tinitus, so the included “HearID” feature that basically gives you a hearing test and creates custom EQ curves for each ear was AMAZING. I see they came out with “Liberty 5” already. They sell for $129 via Amazon, but I found a code somewhere to get them direct from Soundcore for 20% off with free case (purchased direct, but they ship via Azn). I am also able to use these under the noise muffs when needed.

I was born with a birth defect in my inner ears. I’ve been through around a dozen surgeries. I have had a fairly serious hearing loss since I was a kid, because of that, very bad tinnitus and hearing-related issues that I don’t want to list publicly. It’s all part of why I look at the fact that with tendinitis, hearing loss, and tinnitus, I consider even being able to play and attempt to pull off anything — even simple stuff — is a bit of a victory. On one hand, it’s a little depressing to know that I could play incredibly better at age 8 than I can today, but I still can’t help that I have this desire to play. That desire didn’t go away when tendinitis stopped me from playing. As far as Anker, I like the brand too.

Another incredible life performance. She’s won a Grammy, but still not very well known. Her guitar playing is killer on this too. It’s nuanced, it’s jazzy. The song goes from 4 to 7. It’s just such a great, locked in groove. It really makes me miss live performance.

Hi Peter & all – I’m back after just skim reading the activity log for a while as we have been away on a last minute holiday to Norfolk to take advantage of the amazing weather!
I went to see this band a few weeks ago and really enjoyed them – the CDs are great too https://www.youtube.com/user/milliemanders
Also check out the divine voice of Olcay Bayir who I have seen a few times and will be seeing again at Musicport Festival, where I first saw her, in October

Millie Manders and The Shutup, it kinda reminds me of Pink. Good voice, and very catchy pop. Olcay Bayir does have a lovely voice! It’s cool how different these two bands are and you enjoy them both! I’m right with you. I don’t really care what genre something is, I’m open to all of it. Nice share!

yeah I’m as eclectic as owt 🙂 I went to see Saor, a death metal Celtic band, a few months ago! Those were two genres I would never imagine co existing. I prefer Olcay’s vocals though 🙂

What was odd was that I couldn’t reply to your comment @peter

When it hits 9 nested tables, you can’t reply to a reply anymore. Facebook and Reddit go 10. I’m not sure why this was written to stop at 9. I’m sure lamia6 could do a much better job of explaining it and why they might have stopped at 9 instead of 10.

Just go to the last spot where you can choose reply to keep things together. But I like the free flowing real time capability of the GROUPS. It’s clearly a knock off of Facebook. It’s far superior to the forum for free flowing conversations. The forum is great for storing things we want to share for a while with a large audience. But the GROUPS are best for real-time (ish) conversations.
It’s basically like Facebook Groups without the culture wars and toxicity! Just friendly people with a common love of music and making music.

On that note, did I share with you guys that a couple of years ago I watched one of my favorite movies — Spinal Tap — with my son, then 18 and he didn’t laugh even once. I remember saying to him during a funny line, “That’s funny, isn’t it???” His response? “I guess.” Before the month is over, I want to watch it with my daughter. She’s more into vintage rock. Although maybe I should spend time telling her stories about Keith Moon, Foghat, Kiss, etc. so there’s a greater point of reference to the jokes in the movie.

Spring and Summer here means garden and yard work. The soundtrack of which (for me) is “Thump-a Thump-a Thump-a…” to keep me moving. Just the usual pop/EDM artists, I’m afraid.
