On antler saidI understand the ‘buy now, get 1 year of updates’ thing. What I don’t get (but may have missed) is whether you get bug fixes after the 1 year cut-off.
Let’s say I buy 1 year of updates. Midway through the final month, I get this new feature, but it’s got a few bugs in it. Let’s say they’re fixed 1 month after; do I get these free, or do I have to pay WUP-style to get it fixed?
That is a fair question. I referred to this move as adopting the “Bitwig model”, but that was a knee-jerk assessment based on their YouTube video. Bitwig DOES give all bugfixes free after your year expires, but I didn’t hear that in the Presonus video. It is clearly the right way to conduct business. I am fine with the change, but I agree that they could have offered current Pro 6 owners a $99 price and probably fostered less vitriol on social media. I own an older version of Bitwig (about 2 1/2 years since I last upgraded), and will only “re-up” if I see them adding something I find worthwhile. What I learned from “The Bitwig Model” though, is you must NOT buy with an expectation of cool new features appearing in the next year. You are paying for what is delivered at time of purchase. Promises of big future updates are a pig in a poke. The PR department’s greatly desired feature-add might be a “yawn” to you. I am kinda surprised they dropped this bomb without teasing some kool new features in 7, but I guess maybe they are getting “The Bad News” over first?
