Having the add-ons included as well is a great thing.

Hmm. I upgraded two years ago from 5 to 6 and it was $118 for me. That gave me two years of updates. Now it is $149/year? This is an improvement?
This would be a clever signature if I could think of one.

I’m guessing $118 was a discount price; perhaps they’ll discount the $149 from time to time too. While it may still end up being more expensive to update two years consecutively, there may occasionally be some features that aren’t immediate must-haves depending on how you use it.

It was a discount price at Best Service but I got it 5 days after 6.0 was released. Full disclosure, I did use $0.89 Best Coins to bring the price down from $119.

October 9
Hi Jeffrey,Thank you for being a Studio One user! We wanted to let you know about upcoming changes to our Studio One products and purchase offerings.
Beginning with the release of version 7 on October 9th, we are moving to one, feature-complete Edition of our flagship software and will no longer offer feature-limited Studio One Artist and Studio One Prime Editions.
Going forward, there will be one DAW for all: Studio One Pro.
From the first version of Studio One in 2009, we’ve released new major versions every 2 years. In order to continue to grow Studio One, we’re aiming to deliver more major new features, faster, as soon as they’re ready. To accomplish this, we’re changing our release cadence to a faster feature release cycle with multiple major new feature releases each year. This means that Studio One Pro 7 will be our last numbered version release, and going forward, version naming will be time-based with the first of these new feature releases coming early next year.
With the change in versioning and our new feature release cycle, starting today, all Studio One Pro perpetual licenses will include one (1) full year of new feature releases from the time of registration. This means you’ll upgrade your license on your schedule and still get to keep a full year of new features released after you purchase a license — without worrying about the timing of major releases.
You will never lose access to Studio One Pro with any perpetual license.
We’re also making Studio One Pro perpetual licenses more accessible than ever, with improvements to upgrade eligibility and pricing. Beginning today, we’re offering one upgrade price for all, allowing owners of any previous version of Studio One Professional or Studio One Artist Edition to upgrade for US$149.99.
Finally, to align with our vision of one DAW for all, Studio One+ will become Studio One Pro+, and is still the best way into everything Studio One Pro.
All Studio One Pro+ subscribers will continue to enjoy unlimited access to cloud-based tools, content, loops, samples, and all the extras.
For subscribers and members on Hybrid plans, your annual subscription will continue to include a Studio One Pro perpetual license along with all new features released each year of your subscription — all yours to keep.
These changes are the direct result of your feedback, and we will continue to listen and evolve our offerings to best fit your needs. We’re excited to share more details with you about Studio One Pro 7 on October 9th.
Thank you for your continued support of PreSonus and Studio One.

I bought Studio One Pro 3 back when they made an offer to Cakewalk Sonar users. I used it on a few projects but went back to Sonar then CbB when BnadLab bought Cakewalk’s intellectual property primarily because I had spent so many years getting familiar with Sonar. So do you guys find Studio Pro One a lot better than CbB or Sonar? And do you think waiting until Black Friday will yield a better deal on updating my Studio Pro One 3 to 7?
Your friend who keeps the beat.
Things like in the above thread on pricing and upgrades, have me looking at maybe trying Cubase as I’m not really sure where Studio One is headed. version 6 and 6.5 certainly were not big updates as far as I can see (but I may be missing something) So paying $149 for one years of updates seems a bit high.
Also seem PreSonus to focused on just getting more users…
as you can get …
PreSonus Studio One 6.5 Professional Crossgrade from another DAW
$149.00 at AudioDeluxe. + Earn $4.49 DeluxeBucks
So cheaper to buy new, than upgrade.
Not a good look for current customers.
I’d like to hear others thoughts on Cubase.
first
its not fair to loyal customers as all artists+pro users can upgrade any versions for 149 now, especially those who paid full price
second
they obviously want you to pay them 149 every year, pretty much like subscription as you will have just a year of updates from activating and then pay again so practically WAVES WUP is back inda game
It’s not much different if at all to what Cakewalk had back in the Platinum days. (The second option)
I have no issue with it, I’ll take the Perpetual License and if I choose to let upgrading again go for a year or 2 due to not seeing any things of interest to me I will/can, but I won’t, I’ll upgrade every year regardless, and I doubt there will come a year where there is nothing of interest/use to me, be it new features or fixes.
There is a lot of choices one can make with this new fandango, kind of roll your own all most.
Briefly, this page shows the 3 options, the first 2 you get a perpetual license, the ist one IS a Perpetual License, the 2nd one after 12 months/1 year(You may not even need to wait 1 year) you get a Perpetual License but feature wise it remains frozen in the state when your 12 months/1 year ended. The 3rd is the only one which is out and out Subscription.

I’m only interested in the Perpetual License, so I may not be 100% sure as to how the other 2 operate, but I think I am close, but I have no desire to check into it past what I have read and vaguely understood :), so for someone who is interested in option 2 or 3 it would be best for them to check in with Support or do some research so as they are sure of what they are getting in to 🙂
I understand the ‘buy now, get 1 year of updates’ thing. What I don’t get (but may have missed) is whether you get bug fixes after the 1 year cut-off.
Let’s say I buy 1 year of updates. Midway through the final month, I get this new feature, but it’s got a few bugs in it. Let’s say they’re fixed 1 month after; do I get these free, or do I have to pay WUP-style to get it fixed?

If it’s sold as a year, then I’d assume you’d be shit out of luck when your year is up unless they specifically have two separate update paths for feature updates and bug fixes.
Only place I’ve seen that happen is with Clip Studio Paint and even there it’s confusing af.

That is a fair question. I referred to this move as adopting the “Bitwig model”, but that was a knee-jerk assessment based on their YouTube video. Bitwig DOES give all bugfixes free after your year expires, but I didn’t hear that in the Presonus video. It is clearly the right way to conduct business. I am fine with the change, but I agree that they could have offered current Pro 6 owners a $99 price and probably fostered less vitriol on social media. I own an older version of Bitwig (about 2 1/2 years since I last upgraded), and will only “re-up” if I see them adding something I find worthwhile. What I learned from “The Bitwig Model” though, is you must NOT buy with an expectation of cool new features appearing in the next year. You are paying for what is delivered at time of purchase. Promises of big future updates are a pig in a poke. The PR department’s greatly desired feature-add might be a “yawn” to you. I am kinda surprised they dropped this bomb without teasing some kool new features in 7, but I guess maybe they are getting “The Bad News” over first?
Does anyone know yet if one purchases the upgrade from SO6 to Studio One 7 will the one year license be activated at the purchase date of SO7 or when one chooses to activate it?
Scenario #1 — I purchased SO6 Hybrid + one year version back in June 2024. My SO6 has a one year license that I can renew or choose not to renew in Jun 2025. If I were to purchase an Upgrade one year perpetual license to SO7 in October 2024 when the new SO7 launches, can I wait until June 2025 when SO6 expires to activate/register the new SO7–which would result in the SO7 license lasting until June 2026. So, the question is: can one wait and activate the upgrade next summer and the SO7 would be good for a year from that Activation date.
OR
Scenario #2— Does the SO7 one year becomes active immediately at purchase date (not when it is registered or activated) in October and the license only lasts till October 2025?
This may have already been addressed and I just did not see it. I hope that we can activate whenever we wish to and the SO7 will last 1 year from activation date not from purchase date.

Yea, I’m getting out of the Studio One ecosystem. Bought an upgrade code when v6 came out, and wasn’t impressed, then 6.5 wasn’t thrilling either, so never used it. Now with the new pricing I’ve decided to just leave the Studio One ecosystem.
If you’re going to upgrade anyway and/or are still on v5 like me, you can save a few bucks.
No transfer fees, as it’s just the upgrade code. $125 – PayPal
@Peter I didn’t see I buy/sell forum (maybe I missed it, if so let me know and I’ll move this)
