Welcome, it’s great to have you here, my friend, @pettinhouse-com. You posting about your early days reminds me of chatting with you right before my daughter was born. You insisted on paying me for marketing consulting and I refused to accept it (I just reread our email thread!)Â — I even turned down NFRs (okay, there’s no way I’d be so generous today!!), plus I already owned all of your libraries. So, when I got home after the birth of my daughter, I see an email from you that you just released your Warm Jazz guitar library and were giving me an NFR of the library as a birthday gift for my daughter, and it would be an insult to her if I refused it! I’ll never forget that!
To think, how many people have trolled me when I shared that back when my career was hot, I would give a bunch of small indie developers consulting advice at no charge (and later did some paid consulting for some of them as they grew). My thought was, I was making enough money and I loved the idea of being connected to music again and I loved helping developers just starting out who made tools I loved for music making. Â There were a lot of small developers in the 00s, some of them got to be big, some of them left the industry. All of the ones I’ve helped but two, are still around and one of those two (Ben from Camel Audio) sold his company to Apple, where he works today. Steven Slate had just started his first drum library and did not yet have retail distribution or make plugins. The word got out about me helping developers and soon a bunch were contacting me. Even recently, Carlo from AudioThing contacted me out of the blue to ask me for advice about his Wurly library (spoiler alert: I did accept a copy of his Wurly plugin for helping him with some quick advice!).
It also feels nice to see @bapu’s installed. I’m pretty sure that he has a trademark on the term “installed.” 😉 At least, when I see other people posting “installed,”I’m like, hey, you need to have a ® next to it: installed® (installed is a registered trademark of Bapu Industries, all rights reserved).
