Orchestral Tools has just released Berlin Free Orchestra a new, FREE 6.4 GB (3.1 GB SINEarc compressed) orchestra collection of sample libraries that runs in the developer’s free SINE Player. The libraries are taken from their Berlin Series. Of course, the dynamics, round robins and depth of the sampling is limited. But it sounds great based on what I’ve heard.
“A complete sampled orchestra with a comprehensive range of ensembles and solo instruments—all from the flagship Berlin Series…Whether you’re starting out in film music, an experienced producer looking for orchestral sounds, or just orchestral-curious, Berlin Free Orchestra checks all your boxes.”

Unsurprisingly, Orchestra Tools servers are being hammered now, so you may not be able to download Berlin Free Orchestra for a while.

So, anyone who is waiting on Orchestra Tools servers to get back online so that you can download Berlin Free Orchestra, well, there’s plenty of high quality free orchestral sample libraries you can download in the meantime. Be sure to check out the Best Free Sample Instruments and Best Free Kontakt Instruments lists for hundreds of high quality free sample libraries that play in free players that I’ve personally tested and provided short reviews. As soon as I can download and test this one, I’m sure I’ll be adding it to the (first) list. It’s just a question of how good it is. So far, I’ve heard — from watching an influencer’s video — and I take influencer videos with a HUGE truckload of salt — is that it’s very good for a free library, but of course, isn’t comparable to a paid library, which is to be expected. But the audio I’ve heard of it, sounds great for a free library

A very nice gift from Orchestral Tools!
It’s actually smart marketing. They want to put people in the marketing channel. Let’s say that the cost of acquiring a new customer is — just for this example — $30 – 50 USD (an arbitrary number I’m just throwing out there). So it normally takes spending on advertising, publicity efforts, co-promotions, influencer marketing… Everything costs money to do. But creating a product like this is worth far more than advertising, and even better than paying an influencer.
Why? It gets people to experience the developer’s product first hand and then it establishes a marketing channel with those consumers that otherwise costs a lot of money to establish (keep in mind that the costs for this library are limited to making edits of existing libraries, storage, and distribution of the files).
So we can look it as a gift, but it’s actually smart strategy and very much done with a profit motive. It is in no way a charitable act like when a developer gives 100 percent of the revenue for a normally paid product to charity.

I just had a chance to go through this collection. It’s nice. It’s what I’d expect for a free library from Orchestral Tools. It’s very nice quality for a free sample library collection. It’s not comparable to a detailed, commercial sample library. But it’s a very nice freebie. It will make the list of recommended free sample libraries (collections in this case).
