PETER’S TAKE: Chocolate Audio is a very well-regarded Kontakt sample developer, and based on the audio demos, this deep-sampled piano library sounds excellent. They sent me over an NFR to check out, and I’ll share my thoughts when I have a chance to do so.

Three Pianos in One: A Multi-Microphone Masterpiece
The O.D.D. Grand Piano is built from three distinct Kontakt instruments, each utilizing a unique combination of the 29 microphones used during the recording process at Italy’s Art&Music Studios. This allows you to switch between entirely different sonic signatures without changing your MIDI:

Oneiric Piano: Open and wide, this version uses a combination of AKG and Wunder Audio mics to capture a roomy, expansive sound. It’s perfect for cinematic scores or tracks that need a sense of space and breath.
Dark Piano: Based on ribbon microphones like the AEA N22, this instrument brings a precious darkness with a slight edge. It offers a moody, intimate tone that sits beautifully in jazz or melancholic arrangements.
Dreamy Piano: This is the “odd” one of the bunch, utilizing dynamic mics and unique placements including one on the floor underneath the piano body. The result is an edgy, wide sound palette that provides a fresh alternative to traditional grand recordings.
Deep Sampling with a Human Touch
Chocolate Audio deliberately sampled the piano with 11 dynamic levels but stopped just before the “fortissimo” (ff) layer. This decision ensures the piano maintains a warm, intimate character even when played firmly, preventing it from ever sounding harsh or brittle. Every note is chromatically sampled, and includes 8 layers of release trails, independently controllable sustain-pedal resonances, and key-release noises. These subtle details are what make the instrument feel like a physical wooden machine reacting to your touch.

You don’t need an engineering degree to get a professional sound. The O.D.D. Grand features an intuitive mixer with 71 factory presets and 101 custom-developed impulse response (IR) reverbs.
