PETER’S TAKE: This is a killer deal. I own Intimate Studio Strings — it wasn’t anywhere near this cheap when I bought it maybe 5 years ago. It’s a lovely-sounding library as you can hear from the demos. It has a different sound than any of my other string libraries, so that’s appreciated. Like everything from 8Dio, it’s a very detailed sample library, so you need plenty of RAM and drive space. You need the full version of Kontakt for this collection.

Recorded over hundreds of hours at Scotland’s premier scoring stage, Gorbals Sound, the Intimate Studio Orchestra delivers a deeply expressive orchestral experience with an unparalleled level of control. This series is designed to bring out the nuance and emotional subtlety of smaller ensembles and soloists – perfect for cinematic scoring, contemporary composition, and hybrid orchestral work.

Every ensemble is crafted with a full range of articulations and deeply sampled dynamics, giving you everything from traditional scoring to modern orchestral textures. Through advanced isolation techniques, we captured multiple section sizes and ensured seamless blending across all configurations. You can mix and match players or build complete orchestrations from the ground up. For Strings alone, there are 256 real ensemble combinations ranging from a full 13-player section to a single soloist.

Each section is paired with a detailed mixer interface offering solo/mute options, output routing, volume, panning, and distance control letting you blend between a close, intimate sound and a more spacious room perspective. Strings even allow you to adjust the number of players through true recordings or stacked overdubs for added body and scale.

With dozens of included articulations tempo-synced patterns, measured tremolos, legatos, sordino, pizzicato, trills, and unique stylistic effects – you can customize your own articulation matrix, save your favorite layouts, and shape a palette that fits your signature sound.

Intimate Studio Strings features up to 13 musicians (5 Violins, 3 Violas, 3 Cellos, 2 Basses) with 39 expressive articulations. Whether you’re scoring for film, pop, games, or chamber ensemble, these strings offer the detail, realism, and tonal flexibility needed for modern orchestration.

Intimate Studio Brass includes solo Trumpet 1, solo Trumpet 2, solo Trombone, and solo Bass Trombone. All with full muted articulations and stylistic effects. Though intimate in size, this brass section is powerful in tone and range, ideal for modern orchestral color, as well as pop, jazz, and experimental scoring.

Intimate Studio Woodwinds offers a chamber quintet of solo Flute, Oboe, English Horn, Clarinet, and Bass Clarinet. Perfect for expressive solos, layered ensemble textures, and subtle narrative moments.

For composers with specific needs, the individual solo instruments from the Brass and Woodwind sections are also available separately. The Soulful Studio Brass and Soulful Studio Woodwinds collections are derived directly from this series, offering flexible options to build your perfect orchestral toolkit.
