Forums › DEALS › Virtual & Physical Music Gear Deals › A reminder to our community — Share the love ❤️!!!
I’m off on the road in a little bit. But before I am out the door, I wanted to send a note to our community. I realize that a lot of our community– probably most members — go here and Cakewalk Deals subforum. Some of you post deals from here over there — I know because sometimes the deals have included our affiliate codes. But here’s a suggestion: don’t keep posting deals there — invite people here instead.
Why? It seems very clear that the Cakewalk Deals subforum doesn’t fit with the other forums and it’s not beneficial to BandLab as it might have one time hoped (additional traffic to their site seems like a good idea, but if the majority of the discussion about BandLab/Cakewalk is negative, it’s not a positive). I would be surprised to see the Deals subforum around one year from now based on what’s observable and my emails with Ashwin, BandLab’s social media manager. Unlike the BandLab site — which they boast has more than 100 million members, the activity on the Coffee House and Deals forum is extremely low. We’re already seeing more views on threads for the same deals and this is an unpromoted passion project (it has largely been growing through social media sharing and search engine traffic). Ashwin refers to Cakewalk Forums as “legacy forums” and told me to be patient regarding their being managed by the software team. In other words, he made it clear that it’s not part of BandLab’s future.
Of course, I’m invested in LinkedMusicians, which is much more than a Deals forum. But if you’ve noticed, we have around 3x more the deals posted here on average than the Cakewalk Deals subforum. Let’s grow that. Let’s get more of our old friends aboard. Cakewalk Forums is part of a $425 million corporation owned by a billionaire. This site is a passion project — a hobby project — done out of the love and passion for making music. It’s not subject to the demands on a big corporation’s forum. My hope is for this place to break even — and then I can start building more capabilities that will be valuable for musicians and producers. I love that. I love it when people are being kind and encouraging others. It’s pretty darned simple. My kids — who help out with the site — will tell you that is what this is all about. It’s that simple. Heck, I just shared a song I wrote for my daughter when she was a toddler. I’m pretty sure that I have to surrender my man card for that! 😉
Think of this community as friends who share a common love of making music. This isn’t about me. Yeah, my name is on a lot of posts – and I wish it wasn’t, but the deals keep this place active — but this place is about all of us and the joy of making music. It’s one of the few forums where you can share your honest experiences — and, of course, you can share positive experiences anywhere, it’s the negative ones that get censored. That doesn’t happen here. This place is a megaphone to amplify your voice and goes far beyond deals, even if that’s all you’ve used it for (check it out and see!).
Please let others know. Now I have to go pick up my son from college (a three hour drive each way). And there’s nothing I enjoy more in life than my kids, so I’m very happy whenever I get a chance to see him. I’m leaving in 20 minutes. Any recommendations for my playlist?
