ANNOUCEMENT We Had a Crash Today

I wanted to give everyone a heads up.

We had a crash today. It wasn’t due to hackers or anything nefarious. I was doing routine updates to the site when an updated plugin caused a conflict and the site crashed. Unfortunately, because I thought these were pretty minor updates I didn’t do a backup immediately before the updates (I should have) but relied on a plugin that was supposed to allow for auto backups, but learned I couldn’t access it and my service contract with my web host doesn’t include having them access those files but they use another system for site backups made every 12 hours.

Consequently, the most recent backup was around 12 hours prior. I want to apologize to anyone who made posts over the time period that was lost. This site is a labor of love for me and I realize that it is for you too (again, only posts made in the past 12 hours were lost, everything else remains).

In the future, I will be using the web host’s system to do backups prior to installing updates.

As always, if you have any questions, feel free to ask. I have been transparent about all areas of running LinkedMusicians and plan to keep it that way.

Hey, there were two backups, one minutes before the crash, one 12 hours before.  I just don’t have the skills to have accessed the backup the plugin made.

As I tell my friends, “I’m pretty smart…for a marketer.” Of course,  those kind of remarks don’t endear me to other marketers. But it is times like this crash where I realize that if I were smarter I wouldn’t need to pay a bunch of other folks so much money to do this stuff. While I was told the back up was going ti be 12 hours earlier, it appears we only lost an hour or so of data, so apparently there was another backup discovered after I hung up the phone. My post from less than two hours prior to the crash was there in the backup as were PMs I sent to a couple of people.
