I just listed my first item in Buy/sell, to give it a try and identify why/why not sell here. The current model reminds me of KVR and why I don’t sell there.
The main reason is that it requires regularly checking to see if the item got sold, and I’m not very good at that, sometimes I may check these forums multiple times in a day, but other times it may be a couple of days between checks.
When I have something to sell I usually list it at knobcloud. The advantages are:
Would it be possible/reasonable implementing in the linkedmusicians site some mechanics with “workflow advantages” similar to knobcloud? Essentially some way to disclose the paypal info automatically to committed buyers, and some way to mark items as purchased and prevent the risk of duplicate selling?
Note: Of course, there is the issue of audience size. I understand that the group is smaller here, esp. while the site is starting up, but in many cases I’m not too much in a hurry and I’d be ok with listing it here for one or more weeks before moving the listing to knobcloud (once it’s clear that the other forum members are not interested in the deal).

Any thread you create gets notifications on the site and if you check that you want email notifications, you’ll get an email when someone comments in the thread. As far as other functionality, I’ve funded this site myself and simply don’t have the budget for it. Right now, as we’re still a closed community, there’s only around 110 people who can react to your deal, so, if course, it’s going to get a lot more attention at Knobcloud. I created the section in response to our members, who wanted to reach this group and have less risk of unknown individuals than with Knobcloud.
Maybe in a year or so after this site allows for public registration it will have enough traffic and membership where it would be more appealing to you, but at this point, as long as you have an item people want and you’ve priced it right, Knobcloud will give you a lot larger audience.

Sounds good. Btw, just in case I’d like to be clear that I’m very happy with linkedmusicians.com and very thankful that you have created it. This was just an experiment with a feature of the site, and the ideas I got from it. I did not expect “knobcloud” from these early stages, that would have been completely unrealistic. I just used knobcloud for reference because I see that they’re getting many things right and are worth using as a model (better than e.g., kvr). And I completely understand that many ideas get put in the backlog, then maybe implemented in the future, or maybe never, depending on the direction that this site takes as it grows.
