Forums › ALL THINGS MUSIC › How to Make a Million with AI Music
Of course the legal issue could be a “gotcha”. The quote from the US Attorney I found interesting – “Millions of dollars in royalties that Smith diverted from real, deserving artists and rights holders. Smith’s brazen scheme is over, as he stands convicted of a federal crime for his AI-assisted fraud.”
No argument that it is fraud, but is the $.005 collected per play really taken “from deserving artists and rights holders” ? Seems to me the loss is from the streaming service alone. Wrong is wrong, but the government is NOT protecting the artists here.
I also wish the reporter provided some substantiation for the description of the criminal as a “Musician”. Especially as it is in the headline. Highly probable that there is more than one musician in North Carolina named Michael Smith as well. Would suck to be one of them.
