Okay, this completely piques my interest. This is a very cool use of AI — for sound design– that I’d love to get others’ thoughts on. What do you think? I WISH I had more free time. I know that I could easily spend an entire day with this plugin.

Neutone Morpho is a realtime tone morphing plugin powered by advanced machine learning technology. Input sounds are resynthesized into a totally different style whilst keeping the overall shape of the sound intact.

Choose from a handcrafted collection of models ranging from African drums to old radio transmissions. Have something else in mind? Train your own personal models on whatever sounds you choose.

For the first time ever, the freedom to create new tone morphing models is available to all in a convenient drag-and-drop interface. No code, experience, or GPU required. You supply the sounds, and Morpho converts them into unique sonic textures that play like a brand new instrument.

To train your own custom model, simply purchase a Training Token and upload your audio files in the Training Dashboard. Once your model is complete, it will be available in the model browser. The model will only be available to you, and you keep complete ownership of it.

This does look really fun and I think the developer offers some kind of demo on their website.

Reading through the marketing material, my only concern relates to how the tokens work in respect of creating your own models. I’m not absolutely sure but it seems like they cost $29 each which is quite a lot for a hobbyist, especially when I think I wouldn’t use the included models that much (judging by the names/demos). Still interesting nonetheless.

I completely agree. I did think that the cost of the tokens could easily add up.

I let one of the dev’s YT vids run until I was unimpressed with what output was generated from his one hour of training audio, which was reading a book.  Also of note- he said training takes 3-5 days per model.
