My Quick Attempt at “Somebody to Love” by Queen

I have the house to myself tonight, and I was just playing the piano (samples via MIDI controller keyboard) and singing, and attempted to sing one of my all-time favorite songs, as there was no one that could hear me, except for our cat. I tried it in a few different keys and found that I felt pretty natural in Eb. I have previously been doing covers in the original key, and have realized that I can do much better by changing keys to better suit my voice. So, after I found the key of Eb major worked well and immediately started recording. It’s the first time I’ve ever played the song, but, of course, I’ve sang along with Freddie many times. This was my first take on all the instruments, while I recorded the vocal two times, and mostly used the second take.

Everything was played live using a MIDI controller. I used factory presets on all of the sample libraries.

FTR, I own a bunch of physical musical instruments and related gear, from drums to guitars to synths to effects units, to a live PA system, but my tendinitis makes it playing MIDI controllers (keyboards and electronic drums) much easier. I was never proficient on guitar in the first place, and even attempting to play for several bars is painful. My electronic drum pads are similarly not as painful as playing real drum heads. The mesh pads are like playing a trampoline’s surface compared to the much harder regular drumheads. But this track was played on my keyboard controller, where I can choose from keys or rubber drum pads (my drumming abilities are far superior on an electronic drum kit over finger drumming).
