This livestream just happened a couple of hours ago, providing more details about Scaler 3. Around 8 minutes in the guy discusses new features and show screenshots. One thing of note, Scaler 3 includes a sequencer. It will be available in March.

Looks very interesting. I wonder what the upgrade price will be.
This would be a clever signature if I could think of one.
They posted on YT that the price will be reasonable for all Scaler 2 users. That’s nice!
Curious about my music? Take a listen.

The $29 upgrade is now available for purchase at PB:
For those who won’t upgrade, Scaler 2 is still a great music theory tool when using chords to midi functionality! This video made my day. Up until now I was using Scaler 2 wrong. Check this out:

Thanks for posting the video. I’ve never thought of using Scaler in the way it’s being used in the video.
However, respectfully, I wouldn’t say that I was using it wrong. I don’t think there’s just one right way to use it. Personally I just play through the various presets and listen for something that’s inspiring.
I’ve done this a few times and have created a few full-length songs as a result. Cheers…

Had some PB virtual cash and user of Scaler 2 so $22 upgrade for me. I like the new version. I also use HookPad (HookTheory). It’s fun to experiment with different chord sequences.
I’d be interested in learning all the different ways people use this. I don’t need it to figure out chords for me. I’ve had enough training and music theory where I understand how to create different chords. But I wonder, could I use it to play a chord sequence into and let it come up with chord substitutions without me doing a thing and cause me to try something different.
I could have gotten this wrong, but @dsteinschneider, was it you that once posted that you are a music educator? If so, I would especially be interested in your thoughts about how Scaler 3 might be useful to someone like me, who isn’t by any means at the same level as someone who majored in music or got an advanced degree in music, but has around a year of music theory training and several years of piano and organ lessons. I wouldn’t have an interest or the patience to use it to have it play chords for me when I press a finger, but I would be interested in some of the functionality I’ve read about where, for instance, it can play with melodies, trying them in different modes. I could do that myself, but it would be kind of fun to enter in a melody, and have it try out a bunch of variations.
Again, I would be interested in learning of the various uses of the plugin beyond helping people play chords, which wouldn’t apply to me.

That was someone else who is a music educator.
I took several years of bass lessons from a guitarist who taught practical the application of theory, modes, chord substitutions, etc., to help students do a better job playing jazz standards. He was great because he recognized that I was in a rock band and would throw out examples of how these concepts related to a wide gamut of rock music.
My interest in composition tools goes back to middle school when I sat for hours at a baby grand piano improvising. Because I figured out on my own that chords were related such as A minor being the same scale notes as C major I developed an interest in theory that has been helpful over the years.
My interest in Scaler and HookPad is for it to identify what I’m playing or to feed in a keyboard track and see what it detects. I also have used it to do the single note to play the chords and play around with voicings.
Thanks for the clarification, @dsteinschneider. I’ve just seen so many positive posts about Scaler, I can’t help but be curious if it can be of use for me too. I mainly just use my DAW to record the MIDI and audio for what I play — apart from the MIDI, it’s not a lot different than the way I used multi-track reel-to-reel and cassette recorders as a kid, building tracks, one by one, piano, organ, synths, percussion, guitar, drums, etc. — and then ruining all of it by adding my vocals! It would be cool to try out different ways of doing things.
