Original Song, “Little Fishy”

I came up with a bunch of songs to entertain my kids when they were little. I wrote this one on the spot when my daughter was a toddler in the bathtub with her toy ducky and fish floating around. I was amused to find that my daughter — now a teenager — was singing this the other day, so I took a little time and threw together this quick version of my children’s song written for a very small audience, but now available to the world!

Yes, I went from being uncomfortable sharing anything I sang on to sharing a children’s song I wrote for my daughter. I suppose I’ve come a long way in terms of boldness / loss of shame!

Thanks, but let’s clear something up — I would enjoy a round of fish puns. Let’s give it a try:

1. I really like the hook in that song!
2. That’s a really good tune, eh? (Get it, like tuna?)

Still, sharing this does major damage to my tough-guy image. I just want everyone here to understand, I’m still a badass from the tough side of Chicago! 😉  I need to put up a hardcore rocker next!

Seriously, Peter Gabriel? He’s one of my favorite artists, so while I don’t hear it, the fact that he’s one of my favorite artists certainly could have influenced my style for even a kid’s song.

Now to work on a song with some angst in it to try to undo the damage this did to my tough guy image! 😉

This is cute. Reminiscent of some Beatles, or Harry Nilsson tunes. Very cool that your “little girl” remembers your songs from her childhood. My daughter is in her thirties, married and raising goats with her husband on their Arkansas farm. She’s not really into the kind of music I make, but she gives me ideas for tunes sometimes.

Have you thought of putting together an EP, or an album, of children’s songs? I believe it would do well.
