Forums › ALL THINGS MUSIC › Post Your Old Band Photos / Photos of You with Your instrument
One of the most fun forum threads I’ve ever known was back in the 00s at KVR when someone created a thread asking people to share their old band photos or photos with an instrument from back in the day. I’m hoping we could do a similar thread.
This is from a poster from a somewhat popular Chicago band I played in during the early 90s. I’m the guy on the far right.

And what kind of music was this youngster strumming on that guitar @Jude77? You do have a bit of a John/Julian Lennon vibe going there (being a Beatles fan, I can’t ignore that, especially with your username!).

This one was from my first ever live performance, at 4 years old with my family band (I was taking piano lessons, not drum lessons, my sisters were talented keyboardists, I was the youngest and least experienced musician, so they decided I would play drums: it turned out I enjoyed playing drums, so it became my second instrument).

DISCLOSURE: I’ve advised more than 3 dozen sample and plugin developers on branding and marketing strategy. I’ve never been paid to make posts, they reflect my sincere opinions, and I’ve never been an influencer.
My daughter was trying to teach my grandson how to say “grandpa” at each attempt he just responded “bapu”. After multiple attempts by my daughter, he finally in an exasperated state firmly said “bapu”, and that was that.

The guitar player in that pic, who now lives outside of Pittsburg, came for a lovely visit yesterday.

@bapu Everything I’ve heard of yours has been top notch — and I don’t say that easily (I haven’t done anything that’s at that level post-tendinitis). Do you have any vintage recordings you could share? You should share more of your music in our song sharing forum. Those covers you did with Fizzy Pickle are outstanding. My wife is a huge 80s fan, and I liked your Duran Duran cover better than the original — by a lot. It’s all just really very well done.

I was about 18…the band was Rage….looooooooooooooooong before RATM LOL
Cool! I had long hair too when I was young, but I shortened it for the working world by my early 20s (the man made me cut my hair!!!). One of my son’s friends has long hair and my first reaction was, “Yes! Do you like Rush?” I’m sure the guy’s thinking — “Strange old guy!” My son is very clean cut. He never got to experience the joys of a dirty hippie period! 😉

@spice3d Do you have a file of that song somewhere online? I think that would be fun. Same for you, @bapu. Do you have any of your early band’s music uploaded somewhere you can link to? I think that would be fun. For me, it’s been so long, and I’ve moved several times, I can’t find any recordings of bands I played in. But I primarily played in working bands doing clubs, colleges, fests, and some recording. The most popular band I played in had a record on an indie label, but they made it before I joined the band and never made another one. I replaced the original drummer, which was the case for every working band I ever played in.

@spice3d The way the site works takes a little getting used to. The Activity updates are in the social media section of the site, but they don’t update the forum. I’ll share your vintage tune here, because I think it’s awesome! It has a totally cool punk vibe / attitude that’s perfect. I love it!
