I think last year it was around the 10th day.
I kinda like how Maximo sounds but are phrase-based libraries truly worth while?
Seems like there’s a limit and finite number of compositions you get out of them? Like, it’s far more likely and easier for two people to come up with the same patterns using them than with sample based libraries?
I suppose that’s also the reason why I don’t use ready made loops.

I have a few Sonokinetic phrase based libraries I picked up in past Christmas giveaways and it’s definitely not a fit for me. I’ve been making multi-track recordings since I was a little kid recording piano, organ, mandolin, guitar, drums, harmonica and vocals. I’m not interested in someone else’s loops or phrases. Even with really bad tendinitis that keeps me from being a decent musician knowing that I can’t play very well anymore, I still want to record me playing, not use someone else’s loops or MIDI. As a working musician, I lived to play, I loved to play. I quit the most successful band I played in when they started doing pre-recorded lip sync performances. To me the whole point of playing is to express myself creatively, not to use someone else’s playing. Unless it’s actual collaborators where we play off of one another, I’d rather have my crap performance than someone else’s loops.

I tried last year’s freebie, Ostinato Quartet, and I can’t wrap my head or fingers around it. Saves me from getting temped by any of their other Ostinato libraries.
I was pretty puzzled by that too – mind you I should have RTFM!

Yeah, they explain the keys/chords in the manual (which I consulted after I thought the thing was completely broken by Kontakt 7 update or something), but that thing is the most unintuitive thing to play out of all of the Kontakt instruments and synths I’ve tried. Luckily it was free.
