You and I might not live to see it, but I believe someday our grandchildren and their children will live to see AD3, and it will be pretty good.

Having played with the standalone for a bit now, I think this is a fantastic update. It’s not AD3, but they’ve done an excellent job with it.
I can’t tell if it’s the placebo effect, or what, but I swear it sounds better. I found the Flexi pieces sound better to me. Maybe I’m imagining it?

I think I was thinking about the bass drum and it is definitely still there! Ooops…
I’m pretty sure this is what @jude77 referenced when he wrote: “Apparently, they have something planned for next week…” But just because I’m following along and hoping for big news soon, I took a screenshot for everyone to see.

Good news! It would seem kinda pointless to do this and not add something in terms of new drums, or adpaks. I always thought the kit pieces would have been an obvious way to have constant new content, but they never really did much with it. Perhaps its not so easy when things are being recorded in different studios all the time?
Okay, I just updated. I own the majority of AD drum kits and I really like this update a lot. It inspired me to create a few Frankenstein kits (created from drums and cymbals from various kits). SD3 is still my go to — it is, IMO, a much better drum plugin — but this is a very nice update.

For anyone who wasn’t aware of it, @gregjazz — the developer behind Orange Tree Samples — has made his presets for AD2 available for free. I’ve been using these for a long time. It’s like getting new kits for free for me — as there’s no way I could create my own presets at that level.

I’m playing with AD2 right now and I could be dead wrong, but @RSMcGuitar, I think you could be on to something with things sounding better. Here’s my best guess — they claim to have upgraded the EQ and other effects. Maybe that’s why? I think the feature to replace the entire bank of toms is new — at least it’s new to me, and I really like it. It makes creating new custom kits a lot faster. The more I play with this, the more I like it. If XLN has some new snares and basses that sound good, I’m definitely on board. Although I wish they could come out with AD3 and make new, higher quality kits that give Toontrack some serious competition.

Damn this is a nice update. Pretty sure it does sound better, like more frequency separation. Definitely more efficient, from my last check a couple weeks ago its using half to two thirds of the CPU the previous version was.

Thank you for confirming that @RSMcGuitar and I are not nuts! 😉 Okay, either that or all three of us are nuts! 😉

Thanks for the heads up on that!

Yeah, I would think they’d at least have to re-EQ some things. I’m just finding everything sounds a little nicer, toms and cymbals sound more separated, in a good way.
(Or… it’s like that time I finally dialed in the perfect compressor sound… and it was off… {come on, we’ve all done it!})
I’m not sure about it sounding better, but it’s nice that the EQ curves interface now behaves like proper curves rather than the ugly disjointed bulges of the previous interface.

I only have the Studio Rock pak. Do you think these presets might serve me?

My guess would be no, because I think these mix and match from different adpaks.

I mix and match a lot of different Adpaks, so I don’t think there are any presets that only use the Studio Rock one. I wonder if tells you which Adpaks the preset uses when trying to load them… I’m pretty sure you can open the presets in a text editor and it lists the Adpaks used, or at least the product IDs.

Just to follow up… Looks like in the 2.5 update, it now tells you which Adpaks the preset uses (and a link to open the list in your browser in case you want to buy them).
