Azslow ( Alexey) as requested by another long time Cakewalk user, Bapu, who like me has switched to Studio One has generously ported his code and there is now also CWP2song. This will port CWP files to be opened directly in Studio 1. I’m just giving it a try and if successful will report back.
The Cakewalk/Sonar Forum continues to go down hill and I’ve observed the Cakewalk Sub Forum is now a ghost town.
I also saw today on the one of the Facebook groups that it is Administrated by the same Furry Monster who has been the central cause of censorship on the forum. He is just as rude there to anyone who dares to criticize the New Sonar. There’s seems to be something real fishy about one person having that much power over 2 major discussion groups??

I’ve never been comfortable with Meng since he said that he Loves us in his introduction post when he took over Cakewalk.
Software and especially most Daw’s are produced by small independent companies. Sonar has been a corporate toss around for years now and it feels like the developers are not free to make decisions anymore.
I really like Studio one and have switched over but I don’t like the fact it is owned by Fender for some reason. My take on Bandlab is that they are only interested in mining creative content using the social media platform membership system. Sonar is not important to them but the thousands of users who only started using Cakewalk because it was free are definitely important to them as potential suckers.
Hi, first time posting here. I stumbled on this site while simply Googling the question Bandlab Membership pricing.
I have been making You Tube tutorials for Cakewalk/ Sonar and even Next for a few years but last year in July I was censored on the user forum for unknown reasons. I had made only a few comments about not liking the membership. Seeing how bad things had gotten I decided to delete all the Bandlab videos stating to my subscribers that I no longer will provide free help for a company that has no respect for the opinions of users who have been more or less loyal for a couple of decades. That video was way more popular than any off my tutorials!
I had already been preparing for the end of Cakewalk and starting way back in 2023 started trying all the available (Windows) Daw’s. About 20 of them. I settled on Studio one like many Cakewalk users because it seems to be growing, not shrinking. I also bought ( cheap ) Waveform Pro , Harrison Mixbus and Mixcraft. I also updated my copy of Cubase Elements 7 to 14. I’m well covered.
I had bought a years membership on sale for $79 just before I was booted off the user forum last July.
Anyways, I was the first one to get a You tube out announcing the free Sonar. In it I predicted that they only put it out in preparation for the end of Cakewalk. Less than a week later that happened. So Peter, you and I have a lot in common with being accurate in our predictions. Including that this free version has a very short lifespan too.
I’m just working on another Video called Goodbye Cakewalk- What do you do now. But after reading some of this I might just call it ” Cakewalk Users are being Hosed again”
What I see ( before I read any of these posts) is that they have had a lot of this planned since the very beginning. They could give a rats arse about Sonar and it’s all about the selling of memberships.
I thought this thread would be interesting reading for the folks on the Cakewalk user forum. I found out that I am censored again! Oh well.
Here’s 2 of my videos if you want to see who I am. Ya, I actually play music.
This was made after I was ejected from the forum.
This is my video about the free version.
