Native Instruments Insolvency Hub

The Latest News and Analysis on the Native Instruments Insolvency

Stay up to date on the latest news related to Native Instruments during their insolvency.

The “Insolvency Hub” Is Officially Resolved

May 8, 2026 – After three months of uncertainty, Native Instruments CEO Nick Williams has officially announced a definitive agreement for NI to be acquired by inMusic Brands. This marks the end of NI’s preliminary insolvency proceedings and begins a new era under the same umbrella as industry titans like Akai Professional and Moog Music.

The “Too Long; Didn’t Read” for Producers:

The “Fresh Start”: This deal effectively wipes the slate clean from the debt-heavy “private equity” era under Francisco Partners and places NI back in the hands of a dedicated music-technology operator.

The New Parent: NI joins inMusic, the massive conglomerate that owns Akai, Moog, Denon DJ, Alesis, and M-Audio.

What Stays: The core brands—Native Instruments, iZotope, Plugin Alliance, and Brainworx—are all included in the deal and will continue to operate, build, and support their current catalogs.

The Hardware Win: This acquisition effectively bridges the gap between NI’s industry-standard software (Kontakt, Maschine, Reaktor) and inMusic’s dominant hardware ecosystems (MPC, VIP).

🗓️ Native Instruments Insolvency: The Timeline

This timeline tracks the official proceedings following the preliminary insolvency filing of Native Instruments (NI). This data is compiled to help our community track the stability of the platform and the safety of user assets.

January 2026: The Initial Filing

  • January 27, 2026: Native Instruments GmbH officially files for preliminary insolvency at the Berlin-Charlottenburg District Court.
  • Appointment of Overseer: The court appoints a preliminary insolvency administrator (typically a legal expert) to assess whether the business can be restructured or if a sale is necessary.

February – March 2026: The “Insolvency Money” Window

  • Employee Protection: Under German law, the Federal Employment Agency begins paying Insolvenzgeld (insolvency money). This ensures employees receive their full net wages for up to three months.
  • Operational Continuity: NI continues day-to-day operations. Subscriptions and servers remain active as the administrator looks for a sustainable path forward.

April 2026: The Critical Junction

  • The Three-Month Limit: The government-backed wage protection (Insolvenzgeld) is slated to end late in the month.
  • Restructuring vs. Acquisition: Intense period of negotiation. Rumors and reports circulate regarding potential “White Knight” investors or acquisitions by other major audio software conglomerates.
  • LinkedMusicians Monitoring: Our community begins tracking specific “guarantee windows” to alert users of potential service interruptions or changes in licensing terms.

May 2026 – Future: The Final Verdict

  • May 1, 2026 (Current Status): The preliminary period typically transitions into a formal insolvency proceeding. At this stage, the administrator decides if the company is “restructured” (shedding debt) or “liquidated/sold” (assets like Kontakt, Traktor, and Komplete are transferred to a new owner).
  • May 8, 2026 Native instruments, NI joins inMusic, the massive conglomerate that owns Akai, Moog, Denon DJ, Alesis, and M-Audio.
  • Native Instruments including iZotope, Plugin Alliance, and Brainworx are acquired by InMusic and will continue to operate, build, and support their current catalogs.

Why This Matters to You

“I created this Hub because Native Instruments is a cornerstone of the modern studio. Whether you’re a pro composer or a hobbyist, the stability of these tools matters. We are tracking these filings to ensure our community stays ahead of any changes to licensing or service availability. The Hub will be updated when new court filings or acquisition news breaks.”

Product Stability & Risk Meter (May 2026)

An objective assessment of product longevity based on M&A value and technical integration.

🟢 LOW RISK: “The Crown Jewels”

These products are the primary reason a buyer would acquire NI. They are virtually 100% safe because their IP value is the company’s greatest asset.

  • Kontakt & Kontakt Libraries: The industry standard for sampling. It is too deeply integrated into modern film and game scoring to be abandoned.
  • Komplete Bundle: The “Standard Oil” of the plugin world. Any new owner will prioritize this recurring revenue stream.
  • NKS Ecosystem: Too many third-party developers (like Orange Tree Samples) rely on this for it to be sunsetted.

🟡 MEDIUM RISK: “The Specialists”

These products are highly valued but require heavy maintenance or face stiff competition. Their future depends on the specific “Buyer Persona.”

  • iZotope (Ozone/RX): While industry leaders, they could be spun off separately from the core NI brand.
  • Maschine (Software/Hardware): Secure if the buyer is hardware-focused (like Focusrite or inMusic), but potentially at risk of a “re-branding” or merger with other hardware workflows.
  • Traktor: A legacy leader in DJing, but currently a separate “silo.” High potential for being spun off to a dedicated DJ-tech buyer.

🔴 HIGH RISK: “Legacy & Niche”

Products that are hardware-dependent or have low active user counts relative to maintenance costs.

  • Legacy Hardware (S-Series MK1/MK2): Support is already being phased out for newer MK3 standards.
  • Niche Cloud Services: Any “subscription-only” experiments that haven’t hit critical mass might be “trimmed” during the debt-shedding process.

  • An update from Nick Williams, CEO of Native Instruments
by Native Instruments on March 19, 2026 at 6:59 am

I want to share a direct update on the restructuring process underway here at Native Instruments. Business continues as usual across Native Instruments, iZotope, Plugin Alliance, and Brainworx. Our products, platforms, services, downloads, and customer service remain fully available. The support we are receiving from our partners, artists, and community has been extraordinary. This loyalty isn’t something we take for granted, and it’s a reflection of what Native Instruments means to the people and businesses we work with every day. At the end of January I said: “We are working diligently and responsibly to secure a healthy, financially sustainable future for Native Instruments.” This remains true – and our determination to achieve a sustainable future is strengthened and energised by your support. We are currently in an active process to find new shareholders, with strong interest from multiple parties with deep roots in audio and technology. We see a clear path to achieve our goal to provide continuity for creators, customers, and partners. As part of the restructuring process, Native Instruments GmbH and a number of our German entities will shortly be moving through expected legal steps, including transitioning from “preliminary insolvency” into formal “insolvency” proceedings where applicable. These are expected steps in the process we are working through. What gives me confidence in our future isn’t just the progress we’re making – it’s also the extraordinary passion and dedication of the entire team here at Native Instruments. We continue to deliver every day, building and shipping products, and looking after our customers. We’ll continue to share significant updates as we have them. The post An update from Nick Williams, CEO of Native Instruments first appeared on Native Instruments Blog.
