It’s not just you. I posted about that yesterday to make everyone aware of the issue and that I’ve put in a trouble ticket with the developer of this functionality (a different developer than the theme developer I usually refer to; there are plugins/scripts from A LOT of different developers on this site). We’ll get it fixed. And you know, there’s…Read More

I’ve gotten feedback from several members that all four of the read / unread systems we’ve used in the forums either haven’t worked properly for at least some users or it simply wasn’t intuitive enough. After making some posts about it, I haven’t received any feedback from anyone saying they liked it, so I took it that it was best to look for…Read More

@patrickwichrowski made an excellent observation — that the contrast between the two images isn’t ideal and I think he’s right. So, I’m going to be replacing those with something that has more contrast. If you can think of any sites where you’ve seen images to represent…Read More

I agree that thre isn”t enough difference in the two icons. Maybe an exclamation point for unread and a checkmark when read. An other alternative is an exclamation point for unread and nothing when read.

On the lighter side, I did realize that when I tagged Release in the poll that I probably unintentionally killed any possibility to see anyone who was going to vote “it’s alright” or “I don’t really like it” from voting as they’re like — um, no, Peter can see my vote and he’ll tag me next! I liked the system with the blue stripe for unread posts. It made it very obvious what was read and unread. Is that the one people found unintuitive? Being slightly colour blind I can’t really distringuish between the green and the gray of the current system. Maybe I just got used to it but I really liked the system the old forum had of having a…Read More

@blackjackschellac It make take several days, but the plugin allows me to upload my own graphic, so in the next several days I’ll replace it and I’m very interested in hearing or seeing screenshots of forums where you think the icons they use are highly intuitive.

I am not part of many forums, so I can’t really suggest any graphics unfortunatly. I am part of this forum and cakewalk’s and visit other site’s when searching for specific help. Just spitballing here. It’s a very small element, so a U in reverse on a green circle for unread. When a topic of forum is read it remains a ball, but with a revetse R out of gray. But it could just as well be a checkmark because it’s so small

Yes, when it is small details are difficult to see at a glance which is what we want for this. I have done some looking on the internet and from what I saw, I believe you could use the activity icon you already have. 3 dots in it when it is unread and a checkmark when it is read. I also realised, from some of the comments I saw, is that we must be…Read More

That surprises me that people said stripes didn’t work. It worked great for me and was exactly what I was looking for. Did they DM you about it or was it part of a thread? If part of a thread, then I missed the discussion. Anyway, what you are now proposing would be fine as well,

I’m pretty sure it.was either the thread for people to report fixes or a thread in the Earky Adopters Group. I realize that sometimes the issues are that folks don’t understand how to use something. I wish I remembered which one had the stripes so I could note it. I take it you like that better than the one we’re using now?

The stripes made it very easy to see what was read and unread. If the current system would do that, then I would be fine with it. As it stands now, I cannot tell the difference between read and unread so the current system is useless to me.

The current system is the first one where I’ve had positive feedback. But if MOST people agree they want a prior system — and because I’ve installed, I think, a total of 4 different systems, I can’t recall which one had the blue bars, but I’d replace this one if a bunch of members can agree to it. I get the feeling there might be one around the band name “Walking On Cars”, but I can’t think what it might be.

@lamia6 I feel like my minor investment in this reaction plugin has paid off with my being able to use a laugh emoji for Marilyn Hanson — money well spent!

LinkedMusicians is getting better all the time. It will become the site to rule them all.
    Thanks to Peter and Larsy!

Awwww, thanks Fleer. While I’ve been working on this site, Larry never missed a beat, posting as prolifically as he always has done in the past. Although now he just has friends around and not some weird, obsessed censor.

It’s been a while since I’ve heard much in the way of feedback. So, what are your thoughts on the site?

Do you like the new, upgraded editor for posting on the forum? Are things going well? Can you find what you’re looking for easily? To those who just came to the site, have you stopped over at the Deals forum and said hello to cclarry? Let me…Read More

I think it’s nice. And thanks for upping the topics-per-page on the forum list.

A heads up — it’s going to get weird for as much as the next hour, as I am going to remove this theme and replace it. It may make the GROUPS fairly difficult to use and the Forum a bit odd looking. After the site is publicly released, I won’t be doing these tests on the live site, but at this moment, it’s saving me a lot of time. Things should…Read More

The number of members in our community reads 70 on the home page — but it’s really 67. A developer has one account for testing and fixes and I have two accounts I use for testing. But we’re coming along and these are almost exclusively folks we’ve all gotten know and enjoy from the Cakewalk Forum. So yeah, we are continuing to get the band back together.

    Welcome to Simeon AKA @praisetracks
Like many others, I enjoy watching Simeon’s YouTube videos, especially when he goes on little musical tangents — playing familiar classics. Because the man can really play! Then I purchase the same libraries and think to myself, “Wait… something’s different. Hold on, I know. It sounded awesome when Simeon…Read More

      Peter,
I am so glad to be here.
I have been moving some furniture in and doing some decorating to the new place but from what I see so far, this is going to be a very wonderful place for all of us to meet and share our love for music and inspiring others.

      Joyfully yours,
      Simeon

While I am maintaining two lists of free sample libraries that are linked to on the main site menu to the left of this post, I’m going to be creating threads of what I believe are the absolute best free sample libraries and VST instruments by instrument category. I call them “Peter’s Picks.” I’ve just posted the first one, focused on all types of…Read More

I just updated the Getting Start with LinkedMusicians Guide to include a section on how to create a forum signature and will continue adding to it to make it as helpful as possible to the community. If you haven’t read the Guide, be sure to do so, it should answer your questions about how things at the site works. If you find you still have…Read More
