Just used this code to grab Bonecrusher bass amp. Gave it a test drive out of pure curiosity and was a little shocked at how much I liked this thing. My go-to’s for bass are normally Digbeth for cleaner and slightly dirty, and Parallax for heavier distortions. Bonecrusher is an all in one. Does just about everything I could want from clean through to the dirtiest clank. Unlike some of my other options when it’s pushing the distortion, the amp doesn’t lose the tonality of the note beneath the filth. Normally, as more of a singer/guitarist I am not super impressed by bass amp plugins. Even when I have pulled the trigger in the past it has only been with a somewhat enthusiastic nod. Thinking, “Yeah, not bad… I guess it will get some use.” But Bonecrusher had me pulling stank face left, right and center, trying to figure out why is it so good. Arraaagggghhhh! I don’t want another plugin but just listen to it… *sigh* Purchased! 😉
1February 3, 2026 at 7:48 am in reply to: Aurora DSP: This Heavy Earth Suite (Early Access) $69 #1000042728This amp is something a little different. Obviously, if you crank it up a bit it does the whole extremely hairy death metal distortion thing very well. But you can back off the gain a bit and get closer to some classic heavy rock sounds, albeit with a little bit of a different character. The OD pedal is interesting as well because you can use a fair amount of its gain range and it only adds usable gnarly juice to the signal without getting too fizzy. In the default, the amp is a little spongey, even with OD engaged. But there is a tight knob on both the amp and the OD, so you can get it to have a more immediate attack, if that is what floats your boat. Be aware that this amp doesn’t have a true clean. You can turn the gain to zero and it still outputs a slightly wooly signal. You can also bypass the amp altogether and the signal is still hot enough for a usable semi-clean. Though it is a little dull in character but can be easily brightened with the post EQ and FX section. Overall, not necessarily better than anything, but certainly a bit of a different tonal character, and would be able to provide an absolute nasty wall of sound for layered guitar sections. FYI: Aurora have also said that they will be releasing a bunch of alternate OD pedals for this thing to broaden its sound pallette even further.
1November 28, 2025 at 8:04 pm in reply to: What Deals Have You Picked Up This Black Friday Season? #1000039682For me it was all guitar noises and drums:
Bogren Digital MLC Subzero Bundle 100 + 93 (€74)
Bogren Digital 100 Years of Beyerdynamic IR Pack (€19)
ML Sound Lab Amped Volcano (€22)
ML Sound Lab Reflex IR Andro 64 (€9)
BFD Dark Farm ($20)
BFD Modern Rock Grooves ($15)
I purchased the BFD stuff from Plugin Boutique, so I also got IK’s Mixbox and Lunacy Audio Time as freebies.
Even though I have heaps of amp sims, I made the mistake of trialing the full MLC amps from Bogren and just couldn’t get past how much I like the attack on the amps. Even when you have a pile of gain going on you can pick through notes with the amp raging, and the notes all stick out with clarity. It is of course similar to some of the better amp offerings by other developers, but every time I would A/B and flick to this amp it would stand out. Not necessarily better, but different enough for me to wince, grimace, exhale slowly with a shake of my head, and crack out the wallet to buy the damned things.
I didn’t really need the ML stuff, but the Volcano amp is a good one and I like to purchase from them now and then to support them as I own both Mikko plugins.
And as for the BFD Dark Farm purchase, I also didn’t really need more drums, but this library has some vibe that grabbed me. Most of my other many kits are obviously recorded very well and have a room sound. But that room sound is generally a neutral one with the idea being that then you can color it any way that you want. But the room sound of this kit has a bit of character to it. You can hear that it is recorded in a big wooden space and gets that fantastic “womp” in the decay that heaps lashings of real room vibe all over it. Probably won’t work for everything. But when you need an undeniable real room kit, this is nice option to slather some heavy percussive ambience into your track. Only drawback is that this kit downloads at an absolute crawl. So slowly in fact, that there has to be a problem with the server that they have it on.
2December 20, 2024 at 5:18 am in reply to: Neural DSP “Archetype: Rabea X” Overlord Monosynth Intro Price €97.30 #1000021538A tip from the Rabea walkthrough of the new features: When using the synth he recommends rolling your tone knob all the way down, because the input only requires pitch information and the added energy across frequencies can lead to less precise results. They also added a Nolly cab to it, so you can blend the Bea cab with the Nolly cab and get the tightness of Nolly with the dirty filth of the Bea. There are also some new presets which Rabea showcased and some of them are actually quite amazing.
1December 5, 2024 at 6:33 am in reply to: What Black Friday Deals Did You Pick Up? What are You Thinking About/Hoping for? #1000020743Software wise I only picked up a couple of Reflex IR packs from ML Sound Lab. They really do just slot into a mix with very little lifting left to do.
The other purchase was 20% off Beyerdynamic DT 770 Pro X headphones to be my main monitoring cans. Significant upgrade from my Sennheiser HD280’s. I can actually hear the bass properly with these instead of just part of the lows and having to eyeball the bottom of the bottom end with some best guess knob twisting serendipity.
