What Deals Have You Picked Up This Black Friday Season?

I’m going to go back to September and am only working from memory. So I will update this once I check with the various shops to see what I actually purchased (sad but true!). I’ve tried to hold back my spending compared to previous years, but I couldn’t pass up the deal on UAD Signature. I am a huge fan of UAD plugins and have wanted to have Sound City, Capitol Studios, and the Hitsville Chamber for a long time and I love all of them.

UAD Signature V2 – My favorite purchase of the year.
Klevgrand Splendosa  – I just bought this for $4.99 and it came with one of their reverbs. I own probably more than a dozen high-quality music box samples, but I loved the reverse sample patch so much that I bought the plugin primarily for that patch.
UJAM Pick 5 Deals – I bought that twice, as after I got a deal for $44.10 after a coupon code, UJAM sent me a deal for 5 for $19 that I couldn’t resist
Recreation Mix 10 Pack SD3 Presets – I think these were $15 and I like the presets better than most of the SD3 factory presets, Highly recommended.
UJAM Stranger – $5, why not?
Pitch Innovations Rhythm Box (dollar deal) – I got it this deal to pick up MixBox to give to a friend. I have yet to install Rhythm Box.
SSL Native X-Saturator – I still haven’t tried this yet, but I picked it up for $7.99 and got a free plugin with it too.
USynth Euphoria with free UVI ReLayer – I forgot what I paid for this, but it was super cheap. I think $5.

So, how about you? What have you picked up, and what are your thoughts on it? Would you recommend or not recommend anything you recently picked up?

So far I took advantage of an A|A|S upgrade offer of $99 to complete my set of their synths.

Lounge Lizard EP-5, Multiphonics CV-3, Strum GS-2 and String Studio VS-3. $25 each was a deal I couldn’t pass up.

Since I’m a sucker for creative glitch FX, I’m going to get something at Pluginboutique to qualify for the Time BOGO. Probably a preset pack for Hybrid 3.

For me it was all guitar noises and drums:

I purchased the BFD stuff from Plugin Boutique, so I also got IK’s Mixbox and Lunacy Audio Time as freebies.

Even though I have heaps of amp sims, I made the mistake of trialing the full MLC amps from Bogren and just couldn’t get past how much I like the attack on the amps. Even when you have a pile of gain going on you can pick through notes with the amp raging, and the notes all stick out with clarity. It is of course similar to some of the better amp offerings by other developers, but every time I would A/B and flick to this amp it would stand out. Not necessarily better, but different enough for me to wince, grimace, exhale slowly with a shake of my head, and crack out the wallet to buy the damned things.

I didn’t really need the ML stuff, but the Volcano amp is a good one and I like to purchase from them now and then to support them as I own both Mikko plugins.

And as for the BFD Dark Farm purchase, I also didn’t really need more drums, but this library has some vibe that grabbed me. Most of my other many kits are obviously recorded very well and have a room sound. But that room sound is generally a neutral one with the idea being that then you can color it any way that you want. But the room sound of this kit has a bit of character to it. You can hear that it is recorded in a big wooden space and gets that fantastic “womp” in the decay that heaps lashings of real room vibe all over it. Probably won’t work for everything. But when you need an undeniable real room kit, this is nice option to slather some heavy percussive ambience into your track. Only drawback is that this kit downloads at an absolute crawl. So slowly in fact, that there has to be a problem with the server that they have it on.
