Not a gig story but our little high school cover rock band had a (later to be) famous drummer for about two weeks. Burleigh Drummond of Ambrosia.
He was studying music at UCLA and he lived (with his mom) one floor up from our guitarist (who lived with his mom and dad) in Venice, CA.
That dude has more talent in his left little toe than I’ll ever have. He obviously was waaaaaaaay out of our league.
A few years prior to that, when I was still playing guitar, we auditioned a (soon to be famous) bass player. Bob Glaub. He too was waaaaaaaay out of our league even then (1967). I helped carry his amp from his house to our drummer’s practice garage (about 2 miles as I recall). The only song I remember jamming on was Cream’s Outside Woman Blues. I did a pretty fair rhythm guitar for that one.
In the summer of ’71 when there were concerts at Griffith Park, our band bot to play a set. For the life of me I can’t remember if anyone played there that later became famous except our guitar player, Chas Sandford (known as Butch back then).
