I created LinkedMusicians out of my love of music and desire to create a place where they love of music wasn’t sidetracked by toxic online behavior and/or manipulative and unethical marketing practices.
My plan was to create a resource and community that held to those ideals that could support itself by the second year of operation. Well, we’re nearing two years since the beta (while the site didn’t go public until April 2025, the beta launching in September 2024). There are a good deal of costs for operating the LinkedMusicians website, including software/code/plugins, web hosting, security services, and email services. The big forum sites easily pay for these costs through selling advertising, subscriptions, selling product, advertising/sponsorships, e-commerce, etc. While LinkedMusicians is growing rapidly, we’re still not at the volume that would make selling advertising viable although I’ve had some developers — small and one large one tell me that they want to advertise on LinkedMusicians when I roll it out. Consequently, I’ve been self-funding the site at this point, with a little help from contributors. To date, we’ve had around $3,000 in costs and raised around $65 in contributions, and netted around $20 from merch sales, so we’re a long way from covering LM’s costs through those sources. To date, the most viable source of funding (beyond my bank account), has been via affiliate commissions. They’re a long way from covering all of the costs of operating the site, but they are largest source of funds for LinkedMusicians. To be really candid, I don’t love using affiliate programs. But it is the only way I can move from having to fund the site to it being self-sufficient.

Here are the various ways you can help support LinkedMusicians:
Make a one-time financial contribution, as little as $5, with the following link:
https://www.paypal.com/donate/?hosted_button_id=DGWFE3HE6F7NW
Purchase a LinkedMusicians t-shirt, hoodie, mug, water bottle, mousepad, stickers, and other merch at our merch store. The store, a print on demand retailer (Printify) gives a portion of the sale back to LinkedMusicians, which goes towards the operation of the site.
Some of the links on the site are affiliate links. When you click an affiliate link and complete a purchase, the seller gives us a commission on the sale – commonly from 2% to 15%, which goes towards the operation of the LinkedMusicians website. This has been the best source of funding LinkedMusicians to date.
