Finding realistic, playable guitar sample libraries can be a challenge—especially when searching for free instruments. Guitars are notoriously complex to capture faithfully due to string dynamics, fret noise, pick attacks, and body resonances. However, developers have created incredible free offerings that range from pristine acoustic strums and nylon fingerpicking to soaring, ambient electric pads and heavy rhythm riffs.
Whether you are scoring cinematic cues, writing acoustic folk tracks, building pop grooves, or adding lush sound design textures to your mix, this collection highlights the finest free guitar libraries available for Native Instruments Kontakt.

Velvet Guitars Fragment (e-instruments)
e-instruments is an excellent developer that excels at scripting and making very creative controls very easy to use. Their free Fragment series of Kontakt sample libraries — all of which run in the free Kontakt Player — do a good job of letting users experience all of this at no cost. Velvet Guitars Fragment samples a baritone electric guitar and includes two amplifiers, a spring reverb, legato, mute, and dead-note articulations. Each sample was recorded through real vintage amps with and without two real spring reverbs. You can independently blend and control the dry and wet reverb signals for the included amps.
You can use the modulation wheel to switch between articulations, but unfortunately, there’s no way to bend notes, which, IMO, is an essential feature of a paid virtual guitar sample library. But for a free virtual guitar library, this has a lot going for it.

The Ambient Ukulele (Inventive Instruments)

Like this developer’s other free instruments, this sample library is an ambient sound design tool featuring a single patch with multiple layers and a GUI that gives you a lot of control. While I didn’t fall in love with the default patch immediately, once I started tweaking layers and saving custom snapshots, I really connected with it. Highly inspiring for starting new compositions.
