I agree with your view on time limited deals, I was lucky enough to be able to purchase it but I imagine there were people in the world that missed out because they were sleeping or at work.
Since I’ve already been oversharing, when I proposed this to Andrew, his first concern was that customers who bought the deal might be disappointed if he were to bring the sale back on to give people more time. I asked him, “Did you have feedback from anyone who told you that they were disappointed because the deal was over by the time they learned about it?.” He said that he had.
Here’s my take — and anyone — as always, don’t hesitate to post if you feel strongly about this, whether you agree or disagree as long as were respectful to one another, diverse views are welcomed here.
Our visitors averaged 8 visits over the last 7 days. But some people visit once a week, some visit more than a dozen times. The same can be said about other forum community members. I don’t think the advice he received for a 6 hr sale was good advice. So, I recommended that he consider re-running this sale to give people more time. That the only time I would ever do a 1 day sale is if you’ve done a lot of pre-sale promotion / advertising. As he’s a small indie developer, of course, there’s no budget for that. So I recommended he give people an entire weekend, and if he can, re-start this one ASAP and if he starts it tomorrow evening, run it until the end of day Monday.
I don’t think any sane, well-balanced person who bought during the sale is going to be angry or ticked that they got a fantastic deal for a sale that they know was way too short. This isn’t some big corporation doing this; it’s a small indie developer doing his best to juggle a lot of responsibilities who was advised that a 6 hour sale would likely get a lot of attention. As a marketing professional, I don’t think that was good advice, and I feel confident that his sales would have been significantly higher had the sale been all weekend. That is, I don’t think making it 6 hours and not having an ad budget to promote that heavily is a formula for success (my peers in the marketing world would be 100 percent in agreement, FTR). So, I shared that advice. But right now, I want to know what all of you think.
